By Julie | 16 June 2009

Happy Tuesday!  One of our new guest designers, the lovely breakingdwn2Jacquie, chose our challenge theme for this week – time to focus on Renesmee Cullen, whom we finally meet in Breaking Dawn.

Jacquie describes Renesmee so well, as “amazingly talented and gorgeous, and she immediately becomes the focus of ALL the main characters in an individual way. “  Jacquie also suggests lots of ways to interpret this week’s theme; click here for all of the details on the challenge.  And, as always, visit the blogs of our Design Team to see what they’ve come up with!

TTIC35_Renesmee_webFor this challenge, I wanted to share with you a baby girl card that I made a while back that I think is suitable for the arrival of Renesmee. It’s as pink and girly as you can get. (Renesmee doesn’t exactly seem like a tomboy to me!) And it has a little bit of sparkle (in the Bazzill Bling cardstock), so I think it’s suitable for a Cullen.  The quote that I used on this card, by author Eda LeShan, is as follows:

"A new baby is the like the beginning of all things — wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities."

Breaking Dawn ends on such a happy note for Bella, Edward, and Renesmee, and I thought that this quote captured that feeling well.

Card components:

Paper: Stampin’ Up! Very Vanilla cardstock; Bazzill pink and pink metallic cardstock; Anna Griffin designer paper

Stamps: none; quote from author Eda LeShan was computer-generated

Ink: none

Accessories:  Cuttlebug – Swiss dots embossing folder; Making Memories brads; ribbon; SU! ticket corner punch; dimensionals; ribbon

Baby Boy — Thank You Cards

By Julie | 27 December 2008

_blog Here’s a set of thank you cards that I made for very good friends of mine who have a new baby boy.  Since I didn’t use  traditional blues on the first baby card that I made for them (see photo on the right), I thought I would stick with a similar color scheme.  For both cards, I used the Baby Boy Paper Stack by DCWV, which is really nice and uses some lovely and somewhat non-traditional colors and a little glitter here and Welcome Baby copythere.  As is usually the case, it’s tough to see the glitter in the photo to the left — the animals are all sparkly.

I’ve only made a few gift sets, and I find it a little tough to rein in my instincts to add elements that make cards tricky to mail (such as brads, large bows, etc.).  I definitely don’t mind finding ways to mail cards like that myself, but since someone else will be mailing the cards in a set, I try to keep the cards relatively simple, lightweight, and flat.  It’s, strangely, really hard to do — I’m always so tempted to add in a huge bow as is my usual style.

Even though I was missing the ribbon, I did manage to keep these cards quite simple — just a couple of layers, Cuttlebug embossing, and I used Marvy square punches rather than my Nestabilities squares.  Being the huge Nestabilities fan that I am, I never chose punches over them, but making these cards in the middle of the Christmas rush meant that I had to find a way to move a little quicker.

Card components:

Paper: Canson 90 lb watercolor paper; Bazzill purple; DCWV Baby Boy paper stack

Stamp:  Imaginisce

Ink:  Ancient Page in lavender

Accessories: Cuttlebug:  Swiss dots embossing folder; Marvy square and scallop square punches; dimensionals

Splitcoast’s Featured Stamper: Becca of Amazing Paper Grace

By Julie | 30 October 2008

FS-New-BabysharpI was thrilled to see that Becca Feeken was chosen as today’s featured stamper since I just think the world of her work.  It is just so beautiful and inspiring — it makes me want to run and make something right away!  Visit her blog, Amazing Paper Grace, if you have yet to see it.  Talk about an appropriate  title – her talent really is amazing.

I CASE’d this card of Becca’s.  I had needed to get a baby girl card done and had been hanging onto this quote for months (just waiting for an occasion to use it).  The quote, by author Eda LeShan, is: "A new baby is the like the beginning of all things — wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities."

Card components:

Paper: SU Very Vanilla; Bazzill pink and pink metallic cardstock; Anna Griffin designer paper

Stamps: none; quote was computer-generated

Ink: none

Accessories:  Cuttlebug – swiss dots embossing folder; Making Memories brads; ribbon; SU ticket corner punch; dimensionals

Baby Thank You Note Gift Set

By Julie | 29 October 2008

I love having the chance to make baby-related cards!  This set is for a teacher (at my daughter’s preschool) who just became a first-time grandmother. I kept the cards themselves pretty simple – no brads, ribbon, or dimensionals.  I don’t mind adding a bit of cardboard to an envelope to protect a card that I’m mailing, but I don’t want to make the recipient do that!  The booklet of the card was made with the help of a tutorial that I found online and my Scor-Pal.

Here’s a view of the inside of the card box — the ribbon that is threaded through the holes helps to hold the cards and envelopes in their pockets.  There are ten cards in the set – five of each style (teddy bear and rubber duck).
