Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 37– A Little Romance

By Julie | 30 June 2009

200x100bannerHappy Tuesday!  Our lovely and talented guest Design Team member Donna brings us this week’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme  – the romance of the Twilight saga.  to get your imaginations working, Donna quotes this excerpt from Wuthering Heights, a book that plays a role in the story of Edward and Bella:

"If he loved you with all the power of his soul for a whole lifetime, he couldn’t love you as much as I do in a single day."

Heathcliff, Wuthering Heights

For the creative portion of the challenge — do you have a favorite Edward and Bella, Jacob and Bella, or an Alice and Jasper romantic moment? Create something that celebrates their love.  Or you can create something for, or inspired by, a special person in your life that you love.

For the comment portion of the challenge — tell us about your most favorite romantic moment…be it in the books or real life.

For all of the details on the challenge and how to play along, please visit Twilight Tuesday.com and join in!  As always, stop by the blogs of the Twilight Tuesday Design Team to see what they’ve come up with for this week:

Note:  Tonya is sitting out from the challenge this week, but she’s working on something interesting that you’ll see soon!  You’ll see some other names missing from the list as well; they are sitting out this week.

TTIC37romance_webFor my project, I wanted to focus on the meadow scene in Twilight.  It is the scene of Stephenie Meyer’s dream that inspired the entire story, after all!  The meadow is the turning point for Edward and Bella – after this, they are a couple.  I love all the conversations that Edward and Bella have in the book that bond them together, especially in the meadow scene.  (It seemed that they didn’t really have time to fit those in to the movie, unfortunately.)

Twilight2092I found a photo from the movie with Edward in mid-sparkle and used the new Artful INKables “dazzled” stamp from their new Into the Moonlight set.  A big thank you goes out to Tonya, who gave me the clever idea of using paper piecing on the heart stamp when I was stuck!  I can’t tell  you how many photos I took of this card – I just could not get a good shot of the card.  I finally settled on one, but it’s not so great.  It’s a very shiny card – the background is a silver metallic, the green paper in the foreground is a shimmery green color, and the “dazzled” heart is really glittery with the help of Stickles.  And the ribbons and the Dew Drops are metallic as well – I think that these things just don’t photograph well.

Card details:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white cardstock, Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze cardstock, Bazzill Bling in Sparkle; The Paper Company silver cardstock

Stamps:  Artful INKables Into the Moonlight set

Ink:  Ranger Archival Ink in black, Encore Metallic Ink in silver

accessories:  Cuttlebug – floral fantasy embossing folder, Nestabilities Long Rectangle dies; Stampin’ Up! ticket corner punch; Dew Drops in metallic silver; dimensionals; ribbon; Stickles in Diamond; EK Success border punch

And finally, the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme this week —

The theme for this week’s challenge (TTIC36) is What Says Twilight To You?

So many things say “Twilight” to the multitudes of Twilight fans. What images do you think of when you think about the Twilight books and movies? For some, Twilight means an apple, for some, the chess piece on the cover of Breaking Dawn, and for others, Bella’s truck conjures up the Twilight mood. Many fans love to express their Twilight love by choosing a “team” to root for, and others have favorite quotes from the book that are near and dear to them. For the craft portion of the challenge: create a piece that expresses what comes to mind when YOU think of the Twilight saga. For the comment portion of the challenge: Many people often say that reading the Twilight saga has been life-changing. Please share how the saga has changed your own life or made you view life in a different way.

And of course, this week the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge Design Team has used Artful INKables’ new stamp sets for their projects. Check out today’s projects:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Julie ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

And Our Guest Designers:

Alison ~ Donna ~ Jacquie

And we’ve been SO inspired by these new stamp sets that our Design Team has created lots of additional projects with them this week! For this special occasion, we will be featuring these projects here (and on the Design Team members’ personal blogs) for the next week! Can you tell we’re excited about all of this?

Don’t forget that today’s challenge is a team effort, with members of the Artful INKables Design Team playing along with these new stamps as well!

IMG_7274 Finally, my own project.  I am still on the Bind-it-All kick, and now that I’m into making books, I HAD to make one for TTIC!  I’ve been dreaming this one up for a long time now.

And as for what says Twilight to me – Bella and Edward.  It’s all about them for me (really, it’s all about Edward, but I am trying to be fair).  This book is my little tribute to Bella and  Edward – the heart of the Twilight Saga.

This 6-page, 6x 6” book is covered with fabric and features an Artful Inkables stamp, from the Fictionally Inspired set, on each page.   I love using quotes and am so thrilled to now have these quote stamps!   I am sorry that some of my photos are not the best; there are so many sparkly, metallic elements to this book that they just don’t work well in a photo.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 33, Quotes from New Moon

By Julie | 26 May 2009

TT 468x60banner

Hey everyone!  It’s nice to be back for the Twilight Tuesday NEW MOON POSTERInspiration Challenge!  I really  missed doing last week’s  challenge, so I’m happy to get back into the swing of things for this week’s theme.  Our theme was chosen by the awesome Beth, and it is to make a project based on our favorite quote from New Moon.  And I’m really happy that this week is New Moon-related, because then it gives me a chance to post the gorgeous movie poster!

As always, visit the talented members of the Twilight Tuesday design team to see what they have created for this week:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

The quote I chose for this week is:

I would never want anything but him, no matter how long I lived.

Bella Swan, page 451

TTIC33_web

I was clear for this week that I did not want to focus on the angst of New Moon (just not up for that at the moment), so I chose something from the moment when Bella sees Edward for the first time in Volterra.  (Click to enlarge the layout.)  What a great moment – one that I am really looking forward to seeing on the screen in November.  What scenes are you looking forward to seeing in the movie?  My list is too long – there are so many huge, dramatic scenes in the book that could work really well on film.  I can’t wait.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 30 – The Ballet Studio Scene

By Julie | 5 May 2009

TT 468x60bannerDani came up with a really creative challenge theme for us this week – the  ballet scene in Twilight.   You have to love the ones that get  you thinking!  Click here for all of the challenge info, and visit the blogs of the design team to see what they’ve prepared for this week:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

Because I’m me, my project focuses on Edward’s point of view during the ballet studio scene.  While I was working on this layout, I kept Twilight3661thinking of Midnight Sun – if it ever gets FINISHED (and yeah, it’s hard to hide my impatience on this) – we could hear all about what Edward goes through during this scene!  But…I should move on.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 30 - The Ballet Studio Scene

My goal with this digital layout was to portray Edward’s experience during the ballet studio scene.  So on this layout, I’ve included photos from some key moments for Edward – the moment after he arrives there when he sees that Bella is hurt, watching James bite Bella, discussing his options with Carlisle, and finally – his biting of Bella to remove the venom from James.  When Edward expresses his fear of being unable to stop biting Bella and therefore killing her, Carlisle tells him that he will find the will, hence the title.  I find that scene so moving – when “Let Me Sign” begins…oh, man.  I centered this layout around that beautiful image that appears in the movie during this moment – Bella and Edward laying in the snow.  So serene and pretty.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 29 – The Friendship of Bella and Jacob: My Project

By Julie | 28 April 2009

TT 468x60bannerI’m back with  my own project!  I really disliked being so late with this, but since it’s technically still Tuesday, I’m not so far off.   For those of you who came back – thanks for your patience!

Our very own “alpha” of our pack, Tonya has come up with our theme today, the friendship of Bella and Jacob.  Click here for all of the challenge info, and visit the blogs of the design team to see what they’ve prepared for this week:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 29 -- The Friendship of Bella Swan & Jacob BlackMy project for this theme is a digital layout that is literally supposed to be a scrapbook page.  I went a little far in my imagination with this one – so bear with me!  My idea is that Bella made this for and gave it to Jacob, as something to commemorate all the time they spent together in La Push.  (The photo is of one of the beaches in La Push.)  But, it turns a little poignant – Jacob stuck in the other two photos, one of Bella alone, and another of the two of them, because, you know how it is with Jacob.  We all know how he was feeling in those days.  As much as the friendship between them is a lovely thing, I can’t seem to discuss it without the aspect of Jacob’s unrequited feelings.  I  had to get in there somewhere!

Thanks so much for reading – see you again soon!

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 28 – Bella & Edward’s Wedding

By Julie | 21 April 2009

TT 468x60bannerThis week’s theme was chosen by the very sweet and talented Margie, who challenges us to come up with projects about Bella and Edward’s wedding.  Visit Twilight Tuesday for all the challenge details and play along with us!  As always, please visit the blogs of the design team to see what lovely things they come up with this week.

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

Ahhh, Bella and Edward’s wedding…sigh. I have all  sort of problems with Breaking Dawn that I won’t go into now; but I can Bellaedwardwalktopromsay that the wedding?  Not one of them.  And although there has yet to be an official confirmation that Breaking Dawn will actually be made into a movie – the idea of seeing Rob in the wedding scene?  That would really be something to look forward to.  If you need to refresh your memory, read this passage from Breaking Dawn (from Bella’s point of view)…and swoon.

…I took in the crowd of faces all focused on me – until I found him at last, standing before an arch overflowing with more flowers, more gossamer.

I was barely conscious that Carlisle stood by his side, and Angela’s father behind them both.  I didn’t see my mother where she must have been sitting in the front row, or my new family, or any of the guests – they would have to wait till later.

All I really saw was Edward’s face; it filled my vision and overwhelmed my mind.  His eyes were a buttery, burning gold; his perfect face was almost severe with the depth of his emotion.  And then, as he met my awed gaze, he broke into a breathtaking smile of exultation.

Breaking Dawn, page 48

TTIC28_web

TTIC28_closeup_web For this challenge, I wanted to make something similar to a card I made for our Valentine’s Day challenge (the  two occasions felt similar to me).   So I used some of the same elements and a similar layout.  I used a JustRite stamper and their small letter set to Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 18 - Twilight Valentinesspell out “Bella” and “Edward” and the date of their wedding. (Or the date that I think the wedding took place.)  I really wanted to use the sentiment “forever” again.  I mean, if there is any couple with whom you can use that term, it would be the Bella and Edward, right?

Paper:  Papertrey Ink vintage cream; Stampin’ Up! Blush Blossom; Making Memories Bird Brocade Flower Patch designer paper

Stamps:  Inkadinkado (sentiment); JustRite Stampers and small letter set

Ink: Tsukineko Brilliance in Rocket Red Gold; SU! Blush Blossom

Accessories:  Cuttlebug: Frills border embossing folder, Nestabilities circle and scalloped circle dies; dimensionals; ribbon; Kaiser pearls

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 22 – Bella’s Birthday Party

By Julie | 10 March 2009

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  This week’s Twilight Tuesday New Moon coverInspiration  Challenge theme was chosen by Rebecca, who asks us to create a project based on Bella’s birthday party, which takes place in New Moon. For the creative portion of the challenge, Rebecca asks us to create an item inspired by Bella’s birthday party, or perhaps, just create a more general birthday-inspired item.  This is a fun one!  As always, please visit Twilight Tuesday for all the specifics on the challenge.   And our lovely and talented design team have created their own projects for this challenge; please visit them with the links below and show ‘em some love!

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

Also, this month’s blog candy is by Dani can be found here; be sure to get yourself entered into that drawing!

We’re given some pretty clear descriptions on the look of the party in the book, so of course – I had to go with pink.  There was literally no other color to use for this one!  I love the entire birthday party portion of New Moon and am really excited to see this portrayed on film.  I will leave the discussion at that, though – I am pretty sure that we’ll focus on New Moon a lot more as the movie approaches, so I want to save some of the discussion for then!

TTIC22_webThe card I made actually ended up being a bit different from the image in my mind.  I was sure I would include flowers on the card somewhere as a nod to the many roses at Bella’s party, but try as I may – those flowers were just not working out.  When I finally removed the Prima flowers I was trying desperately to include, the card  improved so much that I had to just leave it alone.  So I was going for a lavish card, and ended up with this simpler card.

As with many Twilight cards I have made, I used Bazzill Bling paper.  I love this stuff; it has such a subtle sheen that adds a little pop.  The sentiment I chose, “loving birthday wishes,” somehow reminded me  of Alice; I thought that might be something she would choose for Bella.  The sentiment is on Nestabilities curved rectangles and I also used a recently-acquired border punch by EK Success and some pink Dew Drops.

For the comment portion of the challenge, Rebecca asks us to talk a little about our own birthday experiences.  I really do enjoy my birthday!  However, I have never had a surprise birthday party, and I don’t believe I would love that – I would just prefer to know that something like that was coming.

Card components:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white, Bazzill Bling in Diamond (white) and In the Pink; Making Memories glitter dots designer paper

Stamp:  Anna Griffin for All Night Media

Ink:  Stampin’ Up! Pretty In Pink

Accessories:  Cuttlebug & Nestabilities curved rectangles; Dew Drops; dimensionals; ribbon; EK Success border punch

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 19 — The Villains

By Julie | 17 February 2009

Hello, hello Twilighters! This week’s challenge theme is an interesting one — the villains of the Twilight saga. This one should make you think a bit! All the details of the challenge can be found on Twilight Tuesday.com. As always, we welcome everyone to join in and participate! Our forums are pretty busy, so check those out as well.

For my project, I chose to focus on Laurent. I find him really Laurent closeup copyinteresting; he really is a bit of a contradiction. A bad guy, no doubt — but one that regretted the trouble that was stirred up in Twilight, and one who went to live with the "vegetarian" Denali family for a time. So, totally bad or not all bad? Hmmm…

I just finished re-reading New Moon yesterday, so with that on my mind, I focused on a specific scene from the that book for this project — the chapter where Bella finally finds the meadow again. scadsbury-meadow-2-sharp-reducedWhen she arrives there, she encounters Laurent. I love this part of the book — I think it’s really significant for a few reasons, and it also marks the first time that Bella sees the wolves. I found her reaction to seeing Laurent so fascinating — she was so happy to see a vamp – any vamp – that she reacted like she had seen a long-lost friend, when in reality she was in serious danger. So weird — she was really off kilter here, which is stating the obvious to anyone who has read New Moon. And this moment was one of those adrenaline-rush times when she "heard" Edward’s voice in her head, and because I apparently cannot leave Edward Cullen out of any challenge, I have worked him in there – more on the layout in a minute.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 19 - Villains

I think that the whole "hearing Edward’s voice" thing is fascinating. It makes me wonder — did Bella actually think at that point in the story that Edward was the best thing about her, the one that would give her the best advice? Clearly her own intuition was advising her and not Edward, so it’s interesting that she thought it was him, that she didn’t give herself the credit for knowing what to do. When I first read New Moon, my reaction to this hearing voices thing was just that it was a reflection of the depth of how much she missed Edward. (Hey, who can blame her? I haven’t seen Twilight in several weeks. I’m hearing his voice now as I type this. So?) But this time reading, I just wondered why she didn’t just take the credit for having her own good instincts. I am so looking forward to seeing this scene on the big screen!

Which leads me back to my project about the encounter in the meadow. There is Laurent, front and center. And why I included Edward — I wanted to find a way to include a visual representation of Bella hearing his voice, and I thought putting him the background, in a subtle way, would work. I can’t tell you how hard I looked to find the right photo of him! Those who know about my obsession with Twilight photos (or, let’s be honest, with Rob photos) will believe me. I wanted him to look vaguely menacing; I was happy with the one I found since he’s looking over his shoulder with this "I’m watching you, Laurent" vibe. I typed out the advice Bella heard in her head in the now-famous "Edward’s handwriting" font, since she believed that it came from him. Although ultimately, Bella could have trusted in her own instincts, hence my title (done in the "Bella’s handwriting" font). I also threw in a little reference to the debut of the wolves that happens in this scene — see if you can find it! (This project is a little tough to see in a smaller format; click the image to view it in a larger size.)

A little blast from the past is in this layout — the very first Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge I did was the third challenge about Edward’s meadow in October 2008. Was that really only four months ago?! There’s been a lot of Twilight in those four months, let me tell you! I used the same photo from that card on today’s project; I enjoyed that little call-back.

Onto the actual comment portion of the challenge -the villain that totally freaks me out is Jane. I think that Jane is just horrifying — she messes with Edward’s head, which is an unforgivable offense! The combination of her childlike look and her scary power makes for one frightening villain.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge #18 — Twilight Valentines!

By Julie | 10 February 2009

Happy Tuesday — here’s an early wish for a Happy Valentine’s Day too!  This week it was my turn to choose the theme for the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge and it was a really easy decision this time…it’s Twilight Valentines!  All of the details on the challenge can be found at our home base for the challenges, Twilight Tuesday.com.  As always, we welcome you to play along with us!  And, please visit the blogs of the design team members to see what they’ve created!

Beth ~ Dani ~ EveJen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

The creative portion of the challenge is to make a card that twilightpromocould be given from character to another in the Twilight world.  Because I am totally predictable when it comes to choosing a Twilight character to focus on…yeah, I chose Edward.  I made a card that Edward would give to Bella.  In the Twilight world of my imagination.  (Just go with it — it’s more fun that way.)  More on the card in a bit.

The comment portion of the challenge is to talk a bit about the couples in the Twilight  world. Which couple’s story you might relate to or admire, which couple might not work for you (hey, imprinting on a baby theme – I’m looking at you!). Anything you like. I would bet that a lot of us love the stories because of the romantic elements — just elaborate on that a bit, and tell us what parts of that appealed to you.

TTIC18_ValentineHmmm…my favorite relationship would have to be that of Renee and Phil…yeah, just kidding — you all know what I’m going to say!  It’s all about Edward and Bella. {Or really, it’s all about Edward.  Has there EVER been a fictional character that has inspired this much adoration?  Seriously?!}

And for my least favorite relationship(s) in the story — I hinted at that one above.  The imprinting on an infant does not work for me, nor will it ever work for me.  So Renesmee and Jacob, Quil and Claire  = not my faves.

My card for this challenge is not very black and red and Twilighty-looking.  I really just wanted to do a somewhat straightforward Valentine card, something that Edward might like for Bella.  (Again, in my imaginary world.)  There are just a few Twilight hints here.  Aside from adding Bella and Edward’s names to the heart shape on the card, the "forever" sentiment reminded me of the last scene of Twilight (both the book and the movie).

And my nod to Edward — the presence of the rhinestones on the IMG_6100card, especially the rhinestone heart.  Was that not one of the loveliest of scenes, when Edward gives Bella the  diamond heart for her bracelet?  Edward seemed so thrilled to be giving it to her…so lovely.  So let’s take a moment with this; allow me to quote from one of my very favorite moments of the whole series:

On the opposite side of the chain from the wolf, there now hung a brilliant heart-shaped crystal.  It was cut in a million facets, so that even in the subdued light shining from the lamp, it sparkled.  I inhaled in a low gasp.

"It was my mother’s," he shrugged deprecatingly.  "I inherited quite a few baubles like this.  I’ve given some to Esme and Alice both.  So, clearly, this is not a big deal in any way."

I smiled ruefully at his assurance.

"But I thought it was a good representation," he continued. "It’s hard and cold."  He laughed.  "And it throws rainbows in the sunlight."

"You forgot the most important similarity," I murmured.  "It’s beautiful."

"My heart is just as silent," he mused. "And it, too, is yours."

I twisted my wrist so the heart would glimmer.  "Thank you. For both."

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge #17 — Jacob Black

By Julie | 3 February 2009

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  Today’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme comes from Beth, a dedicated member of Team Jacob.  She asks us this week to explore the character of Jacob Black, in particular, his relationship to Bella.  This was an interesting theme for us Team Edward people, but getting out of your comfort zone is one of the fun things about doing a challenge, right?

Get all the details on the challenge at our home base, Twilight Tuesday.com.  And please visit the blogs of our design team members to see what they’ve created:

So even though everyone is already using this lovely quote today, I have to repeat it here since my card for the craft portion of the challenge is based on this idea of Jacob as a sunny personality:

Jacob was simply a perpetually happy person, and he carried that happiness with him like an aura, sharing it with whoever was near him. Like an earthbound sun, whenever someone was within his gravitational pull, Jacob warmed them. It was natural, a part of who he was. No wonder I was so eager to see him.

~Bella, New Moon

I am still in music mode from last week’s music-themed challenge and I used a song quote on my card.  The phrase is from a song I love called "Brighter than Sunshine," by Aqualung.  (If you aren’t familiar with Aqualung, it’s basically one British man called Matt Hales who makes great music — check the song out below.)  TTIC17_2_blog

For this card, I used a bunch of earthy elements, in the hopes of bringing out the feeling of Jacob’s warmth – I  hope it worked out.   I just wish I had more Jacob photos to choose from!  I have this thing with wanting to use photos of the actors in character, and there just isn’t much out there now.  But I know that will change as soon as New Moon gets rolling.  The phrase from the song is done in the font Pablo, which is used as Bella’s handwriting in the books; I wanted to give the impression of that being Bella’s opinion of Jacob.

I used kraft, russet-colored, and cream-colored cardstock for the card.  I was so psyched to see that I had that russet color on hand; I had to use that color since I really associate it with Jacob.  (Bella uses the word often to describe Jacob’s skin color.)  I also used some hemp cord around Jacob’s photo, and found a Quileute symbol online to include near his name.  (I would love to be able to say that the symbol is a wolf, but I think it looks more like a bird of some sort.)   Jacob’s name was computer-generated with a font called Evanescent.  I used a deckle edge on the layers — I just wanted the card to look a little rougher than what I usually do.  I embossed the cream-colored layer with a woodgrain texture plate by Fiskars.

And for the comment portion of  the challenge — Beth asks us to talk a bit about Jacob – who he is as a character, what our views are on his relationships to the other characters in the books, and what might appeal to you or make you dislike him.

I have so many feelings about Jacob, and they are all over the map.  I love Jacob in Twilight and New Moon. Love him.  I am re-reading New Moon right now, and I actually feel genuine gratitude to this fictional character — I am so happy that Bella has him at that point in the story.  Everybody should have such a friend.

Okay…then Eclipse and Breaking Dawn come around and I do a 180 on Jacob; I have some issues there.  (All of that can be addressed at another time – I want to focus on early Jacob now.)

And I need to bring Taylor Lautner into this — I adore that kid.  I am the biggest proponent you could imagine for you-know-who, both the character and the actor…and yet, when Taylor popped up on the screen for the first time in the Twilight movie, I damn near clapped my hands with glee like a child.  The boy just makes me smile — I think that he totally nailed the easygoing sweetness of Jacob in that movie.  Totally adorable.  I can’t wait to see how Taylor brings out the other aspects of Jacob — his wildness and strength — in New Moon.  Having seen how Taylor is transforming himself, I am really confident about it.  So, how long until that movie comes out?  Checking my counter…290 days.  Sigh.

And  now I can really exhale!  I managed to do an entire Twilight-related post without mentioning the names Edward Cullen or Rob Pattinson.  (Or including a gratuitous photo of Rob.)

But I just mentioned them now, didn’t I?  So much for that.
