Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 42 – Unlikely Friendships

By Julie | 11 August 2009

TT 468x60banner Yay – Twilight Tuesday time!  I sat out last week’s challenge, which honestly felt a little odd, so I’m happy to be back in the swing of things.

Our Guest Designer Erica came up with this week’s challenge to celebrate unlikely friendships.  Erica was inspired by the relationships in Breaking Dawn, and in particular, Jacob’s relationship with Leah (someone is not easy to get along with).  Here’s Erica’s description:

For the craft portion: Make a project using at least 2 items that you wouldn’t think normally go together. Whether it be two colors, or two different patterns or something elegant and rough, it is up to you. As far as the subject, have fun with it. Celebrate one of your unlikely friendships or an unlikely friendship in the Twilight Saga.
For the comment portion: Do you have an unlikely friendship? What makes you different but what unites you at the same time?

Click here for all the details on the challenge, and be sure to visit the blogs of the other Design Team members to see their projects!  (Please note – only those listed are participating this week; some team members are taking a break today, and Jen expects to post her project tomorrow.)

and, filling in for Margie, our challenge hostess Erica

So, my project…I think that an explanation would be helpful with this one.

The unlikely friendship that I focused on is that of Jacob and Rosalie in Breaking Dawn.  I’m not sure that they ever do feel very warm and fuzzy towards each other, but they do manage to unite a little bit over their shared devotion to Renesmee.  So, I decided to make a card that sort of portrays the conflict between Rosalie and Jacob.

In keeping with the challenge, I include both rougher, masculine touches for Jacob, alongside feminine and elegant touches for Rosalie.  (As you can see, Rosalie won out on the color scheme.)TTIC42_card_web

Here’s the round-down on what went into this card —

The Rough, Jacob Elements:  The main focal point for Jacob is a  panel of the blonde jokes that he taunted Rosalie with in Breaking Dawn.  This panel was computer-generated and I used the Jacob handwriting font called Almagro.  The background is embossed with a distressed stripe pattern.  I also added a wolf paw print stamp and rough-looking deckled edges to the panel.

  TTIC42_closeup2_web

The Elegant, Rosalie Elements:  Rosalie’s got the bottom half of the card – her background is an elegant damask print designer paper.  The Rosalie focal point is the stamp, which says “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”  Because, really – beauty’s a very important concept for Rosalie.  I glitzed up the stamped image with Sakura Jelly Roll pens and used a corner punch and purple Dew Drops to add a few more girly touches.   As usual, the sparkle doesn’t show up well in the photos, though.

So what do you think – did my ideas come across on paper?  This project may be a little hard to understand at first glance, but I hope that my explanation helped with that!

What I Used:

Paper:  Stampin’ Up! Elegant Eggplant, Lovely Lilac, and Amost Amethyst cardstock; Papertrey Ink white cardstock; Tinkering Ink designer paper

Stamps:  Artful INKables (paw print); Autumn Leaves (beauty)

Ink:  Stampin’ Up! Elegant Eggplant

Accessories:  Cuttlebug, Distressed Stripes embossing folder; Fiskars deckle edge scissors; EK Success deco corner punch; Robin’s Nest Dew Drops; Sakura Jelly Roll pens in Clear Star and Purple Star; dimensionals

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 39 – My Everything

By Julie | 21 July 2009

TT 468x60bannerHello, hello Twilighters!  Ready for a new Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme?  This time our lovely and talented Guest Design Team member Alison chose a Breaking Dawn-related theme.  Read on for Alison’s description of the challenge:

One of the things I love the most about Breaking Dawn are Jacob’s chapter titles. They’re hilarious!

My favorite is: “What do I look like? The Wizard of Oz? You Need a Brain? You Need a Heart? Go Ahead. Take Mine. Take Everything I Have.” Chapter 17, page 329

This chapter title perfectly depicts what Jacob is going through but in a sarcastic, tough, Jacob kinda way. So, here’s the scoop. We’ve all been on the giving and receiving end of many things, and I’m not talking about presents. We have given our “all” (or someone has given us their “all” for us) just because we love them so much. Jacob loves Bella with everything he has and would give it all to her because of it. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her; that’s definitely made clear in this chapter!

Comment portion: Who have you given your all to? Your kids? Your best friend? Who’s given their all to you? Your parents? A doctor? Tell us about that special relationship where someone has gone as far as they could with the gift of themselves.

Project portion: Show us who has given you their everything or who you’ve given your everything to. Make a layout showing it, or a card to give that person, or even a gift just to say “thanks” or “I love you with all that I have.”

For all of the details on the challenge and how to play along, please visit Twilight Tuesday.com and join in!  As always, stop by the blogs of the Twilight Tuesday Design Team to see what they’ve come up with for this week.  Please note that only those listed below are playing along this week.

And, now my project!  I made a little item for my “everything,” my daughter.  This is a sign for her bedroom door, which she has yet to see.  I am about to sneak to her door and hang it up for her to find tomorrow morning!  Whoohoo – fun, fun, fun!  I can’t wait for her to see it.  It’ll be like Christmas morning around here! TTIC39_fullimage

To make this sign, I started with a 7” square of rather thick chipboard and covered it with Disney Princess-themed designer paper.  The image of Belle and the flowers are from a set of Princess chipboard pieces – already glittery!  I cut the letters from Stampin’ Up’s! Orchid Opulence cardstock using my Cuttlebug and a Cuttlekids alphabet die set.  I gave the letters a little glitz with one of favorite tools ever, a Sakura Jelly Roll pen  in Clear Star.  The sign hangs from a wide satin ribbon, which is secured by large Stampin’ Up! eyelets.  Definitely my least Twilight-like TTIC projects, but, oh, what fun to make something for my girl, who is without a doubt my everything.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 35: Renesmee Cullen

By Julie | 16 June 2009

TT 468x60banner

Happy Tuesday!  One of our new guest designers, the lovely breakingdwn2Jacquie, chose our challenge theme for this week – time to focus on Renesmee Cullen, whom we finally meet in Breaking Dawn.

Jacquie describes Renesmee so well, as “amazingly talented and gorgeous, and she immediately becomes the focus of ALL the main characters in an individual way. “  Jacquie also suggests lots of ways to interpret this week’s theme; click here for all of the details on the challenge.  And, as always, visit the blogs of our Design Team to see what they’ve come up with!

Guest Designers:

Alison ~ Donna ~ Jacquie

TTIC35_Renesmee_webFor this challenge, I wanted to share with you a baby girl card that I made a while back that I think is suitable for the arrival of Renesmee. It’s as pink and girly as you can get. (Renesmee doesn’t exactly seem like a tomboy to me!) And it has a little bit of sparkle (in the Bazzill Bling cardstock), so I think it’s suitable for a Cullen.  The quote that I used on this card, by author Eda LeShan, is as follows:

"A new baby is the like the beginning of all things — wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities."

Breaking Dawn ends on such a happy note for Bella, Edward, and Renesmee, and I thought that this quote captured that feeling well.

Card components:

Paper: Stampin’ Up! Very Vanilla cardstock; Bazzill pink and pink metallic cardstock; Anna Griffin designer paper

Stamps: none; quote from author Eda LeShan was computer-generated

Ink: none

Accessories:  Cuttlebug – Swiss dots embossing folder; Making Memories brads; ribbon; SU! ticket corner punch; dimensionals; ribbon

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 28 – Bella & Edward’s Wedding

By Julie | 21 April 2009

TT 468x60bannerThis week’s theme was chosen by the very sweet and talented Margie, who challenges us to come up with projects about Bella and Edward’s wedding.  Visit Twilight Tuesday for all the challenge details and play along with us!  As always, please visit the blogs of the design team to see what lovely things they come up with this week.

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

Ahhh, Bella and Edward’s wedding…sigh. I have all  sort of problems with Breaking Dawn that I won’t go into now; but I can Bellaedwardwalktopromsay that the wedding?  Not one of them.  And although there has yet to be an official confirmation that Breaking Dawn will actually be made into a movie – the idea of seeing Rob in the wedding scene?  That would really be something to look forward to.  If you need to refresh your memory, read this passage from Breaking Dawn (from Bella’s point of view)…and swoon.

…I took in the crowd of faces all focused on me – until I found him at last, standing before an arch overflowing with more flowers, more gossamer.

I was barely conscious that Carlisle stood by his side, and Angela’s father behind them both.  I didn’t see my mother where she must have been sitting in the front row, or my new family, or any of the guests – they would have to wait till later.

All I really saw was Edward’s face; it filled my vision and overwhelmed my mind.  His eyes were a buttery, burning gold; his perfect face was almost severe with the depth of his emotion.  And then, as he met my awed gaze, he broke into a breathtaking smile of exultation.

Breaking Dawn, page 48

TTIC28_web

TTIC28_closeup_web For this challenge, I wanted to make something similar to a card I made for our Valentine’s Day challenge (the  two occasions felt similar to me).   So I used some of the same elements and a similar layout.  I used a JustRite stamper and their small letter set to Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 18 - Twilight Valentinesspell out “Bella” and “Edward” and the date of their wedding. (Or the date that I think the wedding took place.)  I really wanted to use the sentiment “forever” again.  I mean, if there is any couple with whom you can use that term, it would be the Bella and Edward, right?

Card Components:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink vintage cream; Stampin’ Up! Blush Blossom; Making Memories Bird Brocade Flower Patch designer paper

Stamps:  Inkadinkado (sentiment); JustRite Stampers and small letter set

Ink: Tsukineko Brilliance in Rocket Red Gold; SU! Blush Blossom

Accessories:  Cuttlebug: Frills border embossing folder, Nestabilities circle and scalloped circle dies; dimensionals; ribbon; Kaiser pearls

A Twilight Gift — Bookmarks

By Julie | 20 February 2009

Bookmarks4_webHere is a set of Twilight bookmarks that I made for a friend for Valentine’s Day.  I have NO idea why I had never thought of making these before!

On the bookmarks, I Bookmarks2_1_webused a quote from each of the four books.  The longest part of the process was choosing the quotes, but once I did that, these were made really quickly.  (Against my impulses, I didn’t do a bookmark for my favorite, Midnight Sun, since I kept it to those that have been published.  Sigh.  I guess Bookmarks2_2_webwe can just hope for that one.)

Here are the quotes that I chose; all four from Edward:

Twilight:  "You are the most important thing to me now.  The most important thing to me ever."

New Moon: "I was thinking of you, seeing your face in my mind, every second that I was away."

Eclipse:  "…the sound of your heart – it’s the most significant sound in my world."

Breaking Dawn:  "I am purely full of joy, because I am missing nothing. No one has more than I do now."

I was actually really surprised to find that quote from Breaking TwilightDawn; isn’t it lovely?  That is the book that I have re-read the least, so I didn’t even recall that one (unlike the other three quotes, which are really familiar to me).  I really hope that the New Moon quote shows up in the screenplay, word for word.  And also "the blackest kind of blasphemy" line — that needs to be in the movie as well, verbatim.   Now that we’re all so familiar with Rob as Edward, the idea of him actually saying these lines?  Swoon.

The bookmarks were made with black cardstock that I embossed with the Cuttlebug textile texture folder.  I scored them, folded them in half, and rounded the corners on the top of the bookmarks.  I punched a hole at the top of the bookmark for the tassel, reinforced that with an eyelet, put the tassel and..almost done!  I used a deckle-edged scissors around the quotes, matted them with red metallic cardstock..and now, done!  As I mentioned – very easy to make.  It was actually a little difficult to not embellish them a little more, but I figured that I needed to keep them flat.  I want to make bunches more of these; my only issue now is waiting for another order of tassels to arrive.  They are strangely really hard to find.  {I tried making my own with embroidery floss, but they didn’t quite cut it.}

Components:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink basic black and white cardstock; Bazzill Bling cardstock in red carpet

Quotes: Computer-generated and are the property of Stephenie Meyer

Accessories:  Cuttlebug and textile texture embossing folder; EK Success corner rounder; Crop-a-Dile and black eyelets; bookmark tassels; Fiskars deckle-edged scissors
