Love Warms Every Nest – FHF Sketch Challenge

By Julie | 11 May 2010

FHF Sketch2 Hello, everyone!  This week I played along with the latest Friends Having Fun sketch challenge.  As always, the lovely Dani came up with a great sketch to work with.

Want to see what I came up with?  This card gave me the chance to finally break out a stamp set I’ve had for a while and had been dying to use – an Elisabeth Bell set from Whiff of Joy.  Elisabeth Bell is AMAZINGLY talented – I just love her artwork so much.   It is so graceful and elegant.

I had to change up the sketch a bit to make it all fit on my card, including adding that heart-shaped sentiment piece.   Coloring this sweet girl’s image was so much fun, as was using the cheerful orange shades.  I used designer paper from K&Co. (my fave line) and Papertrey Ink’s melon berry cardstock (also a fave of mine).

For the Birthday Girl!

By Julie | 11 November 2009

For my post from earlier today about Twilight Tuesday and the New Moon Blog Hop, please click here!TTIC New Moon Blog Hop

And onto the new post – I am excited to share these two projects because I had such a fun time making them!  This set, including a birthday card and a journal, is for an 8-year-old girl and I loved using these bright, cheerful colors and the lovely fairies!  I’ve got lots of photos to share – let’s get going!

Here is the front cover of the journal.  The fairy stamp is from Inkadinkado and the letters for the name were cut with my Cricut and the Don Juan cartridge.  I love the look of that font – it’s clean-looking and whimsical all at the same time.  I wanted the fairy to be really colorful, so I stamped the image with a Kaleidacolor Spectrum ink pad and colored it with Copic markers with touches of glitter from Sakura Gelly Roll pens. Jessicajournal_web Here is the inside of the journal. The inside covers are covered with Stampin’ Up’s Cameo Coral and the pages are plain white. Jessicajournalinside_web

And here’s the birthday card! Another fairy image from the same stamp set is on here, and I colored her with Prismacolor pencils and added lots of glittery touches. I managed to get a couple of photos that actually show that, which never happens – see below! I am loving these new Nestabilities Labels (these are Labels 9) – such a lovely shape.

And today this post will really feature only a “peek” – my project is still a work in progress.  I’m in the process of making up a little book for myself, filled with info. on the many, many, many steps that I undergo while cooking for Thanksgiving.  I’ve been meaning to collect all of this info. in one place forever – timelines, recipes, various notes, you name it.  And this Autumn Splendor set gave me the perfect image to work with – check out this beautiful cornucopia image!  This will be the cover of my book.  I am waiting a bit to assemble the whole book and to bind it, since I want to take some time to sort out what I want to include so I can determine how many pages the book will need.  I might add tabs for sections, too.  I’ll be sure to post the whole project after it has been completed, but for now, I wanted to give you an idea of the lovely images you’ll find in the Autumn Splendor set!  Thanksgivingbook_web

The cover of this book was covered with designer paper by 7 Gypsies, and I colored the cornucopia image with Prismacolor pencils.  I used my Cricut to cut the letters for “thanksgiving.”Thanksgivingbook_close_web

StampInsanity Stamps Sneak Peek!

By Julie | 23 September 2009

sisbadge_thumb1Exciting happenings this week — StampInsanity Stamps is releasing three new sets this week! And wait until you see these — they are FANTASTIC!   Two of the sets, Morgan’s Spell and Halloween Henry, are Halloween-themed.  The third set, called Morgan’s Love, is a HUGE set that is perfect for all the bookworms out there!  It’s filled with sentiments related to losing yourself in good books and is sooo much fun.  I will be displaying a project using that set as soon as I can!

To give you a little hint on the contents of the new sets, here is a card that I made the set called Morgan’s Spell. Morgan is a regular character in the StampInsanity lines – you’ll see her in this badge (at the left) as well.  stampsistahsweb 2

StampInsanity Stamps are sold exclusively at the Stamp Happen Shop, beginning on Friday, September 25th.   Today, the members of the Senior Design Team of the Stamp Sistahs are unveiling sneak peeks from these three new sets, and the full Stamp Sistahs Design Team will be posting their projects on Friday.  Visit the Senior Design Team members today to see their awesome projects!

And here is my card!  I used the new set called Morgan’s Spell and I could not WAIT to get this witchy little stamp inked up!  How adorable is she?

Coloring this image was so much fun.  I stamped the image with black ink and colored it with Prismacolor markers, with a couple of glittery highlights done with my fave Jelly Roll pens.  Her earrings just HAD to sparkle!  I used Stickles in Frosted Lace on the moon, and penciled in a little extra “moonglow” around the moon with a really pale blue-grey Prismacolor pencil.  The stars in the background are also from the Morgan’s Spell set and were stamped in metallic silver.  I embossed the white background with a stars texture plate from Fiskars.

The quote on the card is yet another stamp from this set, and it features the classic witchy quote from Macbeth:

Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble.

~ William Shakespeare

Cinderella Says Thank You

By Julie | 12 March 2009

Cinderellathankyou_webIt’s time for a shout-out to my lovely friend Maureen!  She recently sent a very sweet and thoughtful gift to my daughter and we sent her this card to thank her.  Maureen is a very talented stamper who just happens to work at “The Happiest Place on Earth,” so we had to send her a message from one of the princesses!

This card features a ton of Cuttlebugged pieces, and I realized when the card was assembled how much it looks like I made a belt on the front of the card!  It was one of those things that just happened.  The background of the card is embossed with my often-used Cuttlebug embossing folder, D’vine Swirls and I also embossed a strip of Swiss Dots for the “belt.” And then I turned to the Nestabilities – I used rectangles for the Cinderella image and long rectangles for the sentiment.  Coloring Cinderella was really fun – for that, I used Prismacolor pencils with a little Gamsol to smooth out the color.  And I gave “Cindy” (as Mau calls her) a little sparkle with  Sakura Jelly Roll pens (clear for her dress, silver for her shoes).   The blue pearl accent is from K & Company.  This was a really fun card to make!

In addition to being such a thoughtful friend, Mau also recently entered the blogging world!  Visit her at My Puhrple Puhrse, where you will find discussion on lots of topics, like stamping, Twilight, and lots of other things!

Card components:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white, Stampin’ Up! Bashful Blue cardstock

Stamps: All Night Media (Cinderella); Stampin’ Up!  Short & Sweet (sentiment)

Ink:  Stampin’ Up! Bashful Blue (sentiment); Versafine Smokey Grey (Cinderella)

Accessories:  Cuttlebug:  Embossing folders (D’Vine Swirls and Swiss Dots); Nestabilities (rectangles and long rectangle dies); dimensionals;  K & Company pearl; Prismacolor pencils; Gamsol; Sakura Jelly Roll pens in clear and silver.

Teddy Bear Birthday Card

By Julie | 7 March 2009

HappybdayLR_webHere is a card for a little girl’s birthday.  Making this card was a nice change—I hadn’t made a kid card lately and I forgot how cheerful they can be!  I just got this stamp recently and I think it will be helpful for other kid cards; I think it could work for a boy as well.  (Or maybe just a baby boy?)

This card was pretty straight-forward to make.  I used two embossed panels, using the Cuttlebug D’Vine Swirls and Swiss Dots embossing folders.  I stamped the bear image (and the sentiment) in a neutral grey ink and colored the bear with Prismacolor pencils (smoothed out with a little Gamsol).   I used Spellbinders Nestabilities petite ovals dies for the main image.  Add a little ric-rac ribbon and dimensionals – and, done!

Card components:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white; SU! Pretty in Pink

Stamp:  Inkadinkado (teddy bear); SU! Baby Announcements set (sentiment)

Ink:  VersaFine in Smokey Grey

Accessories:  Cuttlebug:  D’Vine Swirls and Swiss Dots embossing folders; Nestabilities petite oval dies; Maya Road ribbon; Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol; dimensionals
