Bella: Vampires like baseball?
Edward: It’s the American pastime…
[Post edited -- I neglected to address the actual comment portion of this weeks' challenge and that is now included below - my apologies!]
Hello, hello Twilighters! Another Tuesday, another Twilight Challenge, and another marathon Tuesday post from me! This week’s theme, baseball, comes from the lovely and talented Eve. The craft portion of the challenge is to use baseball as an inspiration to create a Twilight-themed project. And the comment portion — who was your favorite player in the baseball game in the movie? Why? Will you ever listen to thunder and lightning and not think of this scene? My favorite player…please. It’s Edward. But, really, I loved everyone in this scene; I address a little of that below, and also in my project. So, please leave your comments on our new home page for the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenges, TwilightTuesday.com, and also, if you have created a project, post a link to the spot where we can see it! Please join in and play along with us! And visit the forum there as well and say hello!
Also, January’s blog candy is coming soon! I will be soon be unveiling that, so stay tuned for that info. I’ll post that here and on Twilighttuesday.com — you won’t want to miss it!
Now, some may know — I am a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox. I had long wondered why I
missed the baseball-loving gene that was evident in my family. Well, it kicked in a couple of years ago, and now? I don’t miss a game (in the long, 162-game season), if I can possibly help it. More on my Red Sox love below, including a strange tie-in to Twilight…
And now, that Twilight baseball scene…..
It was great in the book, but the movie? Insanely great. Made of win. There is so much to love about that scene – Edward in the outfield, Emmett the monkey man, Alice’s beautiful pitching form, Carlisle’s smile while he was at bat, the Muse song, and…Jasper. Jasper with his bat was just a thing of beauty. One of the many reasons that I cannot wait for the DVD to be released is the baseball scene; I’m really looking forward to re-watching that scene again (at home). In the meantime, enjoy this YouTube video, which is a really good quality, before Summit removes it, that is.(I don’t know why this video begins with Bella’s first day in biology class, but I’d bet people won’t mind seeing it again.) Look for the moment at 4:46 — I swear RPattz is flipping off Kellen Lutz there! (Video was pulled from YouTube – sorry about that!)
So, my project — no big surprise that it focuses on Edward, but the other members of the baseball team make it in there too. I was imagining how an announcer would introduce Edward should he be on a team, and the idea
for the "scouting report" was born. I just had to get those statistics in there. Have you ever heard of anyone else literally bats 1000? Only a Cullen or a Hale. I wanted to get some of this stuff in writing because it amused me. His date of birth, his date of being "recruited" into the vampire baseball league — all that stuff is just funny to me. I also added in a note that the fictional "scout" would have written, a reminder to to watch the other members of the team. And also, to keep an eye on Bella as a possible acquisition for the team down the road!
And although I went digital for two weeks in a row for the Twilight Challenges, I don’t plan to leave behind the paper in any way! It just seemed to work for the past two challenges. I cannot stay away from my Cuttlebug that long anyway.

And how does my love for the Red Sox tie in to my Twilight love? It’s all about Jacoby Ellsbury, my favorite Red Sox player. Jacoby is a member of the Navajo tribe (and incidentally from the Pacific Northwest, Oregon) and was my image of Jacob while I read the first two books of the series. I mean, look at him! Even their names are similar! (After a while, I started to see more photos of Taylor Lautner and he became Jacob in my mind.) So I always thought that I was the
only one who might have likened Jacoby to Jacob…until, coincidentally, just today, when I saw this bit of Facebook flair (above)! It really is too bad that Jacoby isn’t interested in acting. He’s known for his speed, and he has been clocked at running the six-yard dash at a speed just a millisecond below that of Carl Lewis. Watching Jacoby run is a lot like watching Jasper with his bat. (If it’s not already been made clear — I am a HUGE GEEK over anything that I like a lot. Just wait ’til baseball season actually starts…)
And back to the challenge — visit the blogs of the design team and check out their creations for this week, and please, play along with us!
