Peace, Love, and Thanks

By Julie | 3 September 2009

My lovely friend Margie was so kind to send me a birthday gift a while back – check out my prezzie!  It’s the Hope & Grace-Peace stamp from The Greeting Farm that I used on the card below.  So dang cute.  So, of course, she needed to be front-and-center on the thank you card for Margie!IMG_7269

This card was so fun to make – I love the bright, cheerful colors.  That happy designer paper is from Imaginisce’s Twitterpated line, which I absolutely LOVE for kid cards or a bright card like this one.

Check out another paper in that line called “Hey Foxy,” which I used on this Bind-It-All album project.  How cute is this stuff?!

And here is Margie’s card –

MargieAnya_webI’ve been making an effort lately to use my Cuttlebug border embossing folders, since they are the most neglected folders in my Cuttlebug collection.  So this is the second card I’ve posted this week using the same border folder.  I embossed a floral strip on the top of the white mat, created a rule with my Scor-Pal, and then embossed the rest of the mat with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder.  I like getting the two different textures in there.

I colored and cut out in this lil’ hippie chick and mounted her on a layer of Stampin’ Up! So Saffron cardstock.  I didn’t manage to get a good close-up of her, though – I wanted the card out in the mail and didn’t spend enough time on my photos.  So I’m sorry that I don’t have a better pic or two to show.

Thank you again, Margie – you are so sweet and thoughtful!

What I Used:

Paper: Papertrey Ink white cardstock; Stampin’ Up! So Saffron cardstock; Imaginisce Twitterpated Floral Trails designer paper

Stamps:  Hope & Grace-Peace from The Greeting Farm; sentiment – Inkadinkado from Collaged Expressions set

Ink:  Ranger Archival Ink in jet black; Tsukineko Kaleidacolor Raised Rainbow Dye Ink Pad in Spectrum (for green)

Accessories:  Cuttlebug:  Swiss Dots embossing folder & border embossing folder from the Frills set; Spellbinders tag die; Crop-a-Dile and eyelet; ribbon; K & Company adhesive jewels; Prismacolor markers; Sakura Jelly Roll pens; dimensionals; Scor-Pal

Floral Birthday Wishes

By Julie | 2 September 2009

Ahh!  September in Massachusetts – it’s a beautiful thing!  I’m back today on a gorgeous day with a birthday card to share with you.

For this one, I used a designer paper that I have been hoarding for months.  I absolutely love this paper, but the trouble is, of course, it’s no longer around.  It’s made by Colorbok and sadly, it has disappeared from Michaels.  Such a shame!  I finally worked up my nerve and cut into for this card.  I think it was worth it, because I like the way this one turned out.

I didn’t want this card to be overly blingy, but still, I just couldn’t help pulling out my beloved Sakura Jelly Roll pen.  I added a little glitz to the sentiment, and to the flowers on the designer paper.

What I Used:

Paper:  Stampin’ Up! Orchid Opulence & Almost Amethyst card stock; Tracy Porter for Colorbok designer paper

Stamp:  Inkadinkado

Accessories:  Cuttlebug:  Birds & Vines embossing folder and border embossing folder from With Love set, & Vintage Corner die; Stampin’ Up! silver hodgepodge hardware; Prima flowers; Robin’s Nest Dew Drops; dimensionals; Sakura Jelly Roll pen in clear.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 40 – Blue

By Julie | 28 July 2009

TT 468x60bannerHappy Tuesday!  Here is a different type of theme for today’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge – today is about the color blue.  Design Team member Jen issued our challenge today – read on…

Edward loves Bella in blue.

So this week the challenge is simple… create anything you want focusing on the color blue. Twilight related? Well that’s up to you.
Comment challenge… What’s your favorite color to wear and why?

Visit Twilight Tuesday for all the challenge details, and play along with us!  Margie will be sitting out from the challenges for the next few weeks, but we have Erica filling in for her!  So visit the blogs of the Design Team to see what they have created.  (Only those listed are participating; some are sitting out this week.)

Dani  ~ Eve ~ JenRebecca

And Our Guest Designers:

Alison ~ DonnaErica ~ Jacquie

I was happy to work with blue, my favorite color, for this week.  I just found this stamp that I LOVE (the one with the trees and the moon) and I designed the card around that, going with a lunar theme.  At least, I’m hoping that the lunar thing comes across – because otherwise, my having that offset silver circle behind the white circle will look really odd.  I did that to give an impression of the phases of the moon, and the four silver Dew Drops on the side – also for the four phases of the moon.   So, I might be the only person who would take note of these things – but, hey, I enjoyed it.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 40 - Blue In trying to get the look of a moonlit sky, I used many glittery elements on this card.  The card base is silver metallic cardstock; there is a layer of Bazzill Bling white cardstock; and the front panel is a metallic dark blue.  I stamped the moon and trees image in Stampin’ Up! Night of Navy ink, and then glittered it up, with Shimmerz in Angel Wings,  and a couple Sakura Jelly Roll pens.  Here’s a better look —

Thanks so much for visiting!

Twilight Tuesday Sketch Challenge 7: Be Safe

By Julie | 27 July 2009

Hello everyone!  Here is a card for the latest Twilight Tuesday Sketch ChallengeDani has been coming up with great sketches to work with, and I really love this one.  Click here to get the challenge details and play along!  Our sketch challenges have gone so well lately that we’ll be doing them more often going forward.

For this card, I was in the mood to use red and white for a Twilight feel, but but…I wasn’t up for using the classic black.  The black was just too heavy for this feminine-looking card, but  Chocolate Chip was just right.  I really like this red and brown combo. here.

I combined two stamps on the circle – an Inkadinkado flower and Edward’s famous “be safe,” from Artful INKable’s Fictionally Inspired set.  The flowers were given a little Cullen-style bling from Stickles.

Twilight Tuesday Sketch Challenge 7

This card was for the lovely and sweet Jacquie, one of my fellow members on the Twilight Tuesday Design Team.  I hope she likes it!

What I Used:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white cardstock; Stampin’ Up! Riding Hood Red and Chocolate Chip cardstock; Stampin’ Up! Bella Rose designer paper

Stamps: Artful INKables from the Fictionally Inspired Set (sentiment); Inkadinkado from the Bohemian Flourishes set (flower)

Ink:  Stampin’ Up!  Riding Hood Red

Accessories:  Cuttlebug: Sizzix damask embossing folder and Spellbinders Nestabilities petite circle and petite scalloped circle dies; ribbon; dimensionals; Stickles in fruit punch; gems by K & Company

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 38: The Honeymoon of Edward & Bella

By Julie | 14 July 2009

200x100bannerHappy Tuesday, everyone!  After an off week last Tuesday, It’s nice to be back with a new Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme!  This week’s theme comes from Dani, who has the following to say:

Breaking Dawn has so many wonderful scenes and one of my favorites is the honeymoon that Edward took Bella on after they were married. What a romantic time for them. Alone on a tropical island… sigh. This is the stuff that dreams are made of.

For all of the details on the challenge and how to play along, please visit Twilight Tuesday.com and join in!  As always, stop by the blogs of the Twilight Tuesday Design Team to see what they’ve come up with for this week.  Please note that only those listed below are playing along this week; a couple members of our team will not be posting for this challenge today.

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Rebecca

And Our Guest Designers:

Alison ~ Donna ~ Jacquie

The craft portion of the challenge is to create something that  represents Bella and Edward’s honeymoon.

And here is my card!   I had a lot of fun making this card, as it got to me to think of different colors to suit the tropical theme.  This combination of Tempting Turquoise and So Saffron is not one that I would have ever come up without the tropical theme to push me in that direction.  And it was really cool to do something different!

So to get myself thinking of Isle Esme, I looked around online and found these photos that totally look like the Isle Esme I pictured while reading Breaking Dawn.  I thought I’d share them with you all!

Kid Cards!

By Julie | 29 June 2009

Here is a fun occasion – a joint birthday party for three four-year-olds!  Today I’m sharing the three cards that I made for the kids.

First up, a girl card!  I love Hello Kitty and like having a chance to use her sweet self on a project.

HelloKittybday_web

And…a boy card.  I was a little daunted at first by the boy theme; having only a daughter myself, this is a little more unfamiliar to me.  But when I remembered that I have this really cool, old Stampin’ Up! set called Toy Box with this little dinosaur, I was all set.  I kept this one super-simple.

Happybdaydino_web

And the final card, for a girl.  This is a paper I love, that I used recently for a Father’s Day project.  So cute!  And it got me to combine two colors that I would not have combined on my own – Papertrey’s Melon Berry and Stampin’ Up!’s Baja Breeze.

Check in again tomorrow for a new Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme!   See you then!

Love and Marriage

By Julie | 25 June 2009

Engagement_web…go together like a horse and carriage…(Can’t you just hear Frank crooning away?)

I had a request for an engagement card, and would you believe that I have never made one?  I just never had the occasion, and also, not a lot of “engagement” stamps out there.  So I turned to “love.”  That ought to cover it, and should also explain the title of this post.  I loved making this card – it’s nice to pull out all the stops and go really girly sometimes!

You still have a little time to enter for this week’s final blog  candy giveaway of the month!  Leave a comment on this post, up until 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday, June 25th, for your chance to win!  I will announce the winner tomorrow.

For The Cutest Two-Year Old I Know

By Julie | 9 June 2009

Happy2ndbday_web This is a happy occasion – my very adorable niece is turning two and this birthday card is for her.

I don’t have many supplies on hand that are kid-oriented, so I decided that going with bright, cheerful colors would be a safe bet.  I had such a good time making this card – I think the cheerful colors work!

This is one of those cards that looks better in person than it does when photographed.   You know how it is – sparkly elements just do not photograph well, but I hope you can get the idea.

Bdayset_webI used the Cuttlebug Stylized Flowers embossing folder on this card – one that I rarely use.  It seems to compete when it’s on a card, but this time, it suited the designer paper.  And how about that paper?!  It’s called White Flower Patch by Déjà Views — can you tell how much I love it?  I definitely went a little paper-happy here – I decorated the gift bag with it (which is visible only a bit in this photo), and even covered the envelope with it.  This paper is great – it has a bit of a bright green in it (which is subtle – look on the envelope), and some of the white flowers are embossed.  (The strange look of the envelope?  I blurred out my niece’s name.)

I colored the flowers on the embossed panel with watercolor pencils and then added Stickles in Diamond.  The Stickles are also on the number 2, which you can’t really see from the IMG_7066photos.  I used Dew Drops in the centers of the flowers for an added pop.  Want to know my secret for these nice, bright orange Dew Drops?  An orange Sharpie.  Seriously – I started with  clear Dew Drops, colored them with an orange Sharpie, and that was it — I had the right color for my card!  Couldn’t be quicker.

And as usual for me, I used a bunch of die cuts on the card.  The sentiment is mounted on Nestabilities long rectangle dies, and the “2” is on Nestabilities flower dies.

Lots more to come this week – some Bind-in-All projects, as promised, and I will post info. on the new blog candy for the week on Friday.  Be on the lookout for those posts – see you again soon!
