Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge – Our First Color Challenge!

By Julie | 12 January 2010

ttic bannerHappy Tuesday!  Twilight Tuesday has a really cool thing happening for today – our very first Color Challenge!  The challenge colors for this week feature the colors of lovely Edward’s features.  Alison is our hostess this week; check out her description below:

The first color is Butterscotch for his eyes (when he isn’t hungry!), second is Alabaster for his pale, pale skin, and third is Reddish-Brown for his fabulous hair!

And here is my project for this week – an ode to Edward.  Hehe.  It seems that every so often I need to do an ode to Edward, and this is my New Moon-era version.

This card looks better in person – I could never get an accurate photo of all the glitter!  But see that glitter cardstock there?  This stuff is the nicest glitter paper EVER.  I transported this stuff home with me all the way from Texas!  (Tonya!  Hey girl!)  During my visit with Tonya,  of course we had to do a little crafty shopping, and I found this glitter paper at a store local to her.  It’s the BEST – it’s sort of soft to the touch and the glitter does not fall off of the paper.  I don’t know how they do it – you’re usually covered with glitter when you use paper like this! The paper is made by a company called Best Creation – look for it!  Trust me – it’s amazing stuff – SO bright and sparkly!  IMG_8869

I only wish you could see the glitter better on this card!  It is so very bright and shiny in real life that I had to stop myself from embellishing the card any further!  I used a gold glitter cardstock (covering the Butterscotch for Edward’s eyes) and a bronze glitter shade (for the Reddish-Brown of his hair).  Some Bazzill Bling paper in an “Alabaster” shade called String of Pearls stands in for that pale Cullen skin tone.  That is the shade of the embossed background of the card.

IMG_8866 I was absolutely THRILLED with this sentiment (Beauty is Soul-Deep) for Edward – does that capture him or what?  He doesn’t seem to fully comprehend his beauty, nor does he really believe (at some points in the books, at least) that he is capable of having a soul.   But we, the readers, know better, don’t we?  Of course we do!

Thanks so much for visiting – have a great day!

What I Used:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink Vintage Cream cardstock; Stampin’ Up! Creamy Caramel cardstock; Best Creation glitter cardstock in gold and bronze; Bazzill Bling in String of Pearls

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 51 – Edward Cullen’s Greatest Hits

By Julie | 20 October 2009

TT 468x60banner Hello everyone!  It’s Twilight Tuesday time – I have been away from my blog for a few days and it’s so nice to be back!  Today’s challenge has a really nice theme – it’s all about Edward.  We have covered Edward so many ways in so many different challenge themes, but we had yet to do a theme solely focused on his character.

As always, be sure to visit our awesome Design Team to see what they have to display for this week!

Alison ~ Dani ~ Donna ~ Eve ~ Jacquie ~ Jen ~ Julie ~ Margie ~ Rebecca

(Erica is off this week and will return next week.)

So Jen issues the challenge for this week:

So for this challenge I want you to focus on your connection to Edward. What does his character mean to you?

For the creative challenge: Create a project that focuses on Edward.

For the comment portion: How do you feel about Edward’s character? Is it like, love or disdain? Have you read the partial draft of Midnight Sun? What did you think about reading the story from his point of view?

So what does the character of Edward Cullen mean to me?  Edward IS the Twilight saga to me; that is all there is to it.  I have worked Edward into as many of the past Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenges as you could imagine, so I just had to do a little retrospective of the projects today.

Here is my very first entry to the world of the Twilight Tuesday challenges – here is TTIC3, about “Edward’s meadow.”Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 3 - Edward's Meadow Another early challenge – "Whose Team Are You On?"  And my answer – so obvious.Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 5 - Whose Team Are You On? This challenge (TTIC12) was to choose our favorite Twilight quotes, so I just had to turn to Midnight Sun, which, although incomplete, is still my favorite part of the Twilight Saga.  Again – me = Edward-centric.Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 12 -- Favorite Twilight QuotesTwilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 12 -- Favorite Twilight Quotes (close up) Here is my project for the "Twilight Music" challenge – I had to go with Edward and Bella’s Lullaby. Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 16 - Twilight Music And for Twilight baseball? Yep, went with Edward again. Here is his baseball "scouting report;" the vampire baseball league was very interested in recruiting him. Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 14 - Baseball And this one was for the challenge on "Our Favorite Twilight Things" and I continue with my super-obvious choices and went with this guy — Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 25 - Our Fave Twilight Things And I saved this one for last because it’s one my faves.  This digital layout was for the challenge on the ballet studio scene from Twilight.  I really like the story this one tells – I used small images at the bottom of the layout to show the process he goes through in that scene.  I think that Edward’s ability to save Bella from James’ venom is a serious turning point for the character.  After this occurs, he seems to realize that he won’t be able to hurt Bella after all since his love for her outweighs the temptation.  Sigh.  Oh, Edward.Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 30 - The Ballet Studio Scene

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 37– A Little Romance

By Julie | 30 June 2009

200x100bannerHappy Tuesday!  Our lovely and talented guest Design Team member Donna brings us this week’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme  – the romance of the Twilight saga.  to get your imaginations working, Donna quotes this excerpt from Wuthering Heights, a book that plays a role in the story of Edward and Bella:

"If he loved you with all the power of his soul for a whole lifetime, he couldn’t love you as much as I do in a single day."

Heathcliff, Wuthering Heights

For the creative portion of the challenge — do you have a favorite Edward and Bella, Jacob and Bella, or an Alice and Jasper romantic moment? Create something that celebrates their love.  Or you can create something for, or inspired by, a special person in your life that you love.

For the comment portion of the challenge — tell us about your most favorite romantic moment…be it in the books or real life.

For all of the details on the challenge and how to play along, please visit Twilight Tuesday.com and join in!  As always, stop by the blogs of the Twilight Tuesday Design Team to see what they’ve come up with for this week:

And Our Guest Designers:

Note:  Tonya is sitting out from the challenge this week, but she’s working on something interesting that you’ll see soon!  You’ll see some other names missing from the list as well; they are sitting out this week.

TTIC37romance_webFor my project, I wanted to focus on the meadow scene in Twilight.  It is the scene of Stephenie Meyer’s dream that inspired the entire story, after all!  The meadow is the turning point for Edward and Bella – after this, they are a couple.  I love all the conversations that Edward and Bella have in the book that bond them together, especially in the meadow scene.  (It seemed that they didn’t really have time to fit those in to the movie, unfortunately.)

Twilight2092I found a photo from the movie with Edward in mid-sparkle and used the new Artful INKables “dazzled” stamp from their new Into the Moonlight set.  A big thank you goes out to Tonya, who gave me the clever idea of using paper piecing on the heart stamp when I was stuck!  I can’t tell  you how many photos I took of this card – I just could not get a good shot of the card.  I finally settled on one, but it’s not so great.  It’s a very shiny card – the background is a silver metallic, the green paper in the foreground is a shimmery green color, and the “dazzled” heart is really glittery with the help of Stickles.  And the ribbons and the Dew Drops are metallic as well – I think that these things just don’t photograph well.

Card details:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white cardstock, Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze cardstock, Bazzill Bling in Sparkle; The Paper Company silver cardstock

Stamps:  Artful INKables Into the Moonlight set

Ink:  Ranger Archival Ink in black, Encore Metallic Ink in silver

accessories:  Cuttlebug – floral fantasy embossing folder, Nestabilities Long Rectangle dies; Stampin’ Up! ticket corner punch; Dew Drops in metallic silver; dimensionals; ribbon; Stickles in Diamond; EK Success border punch

And you have got to get yourself to Twilight Tuesday to check out the amazing blog candy we have to offer.  Artful INKables has donated three sets of stamps and one set of charms for us to give away.

And finally, the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme this week —

The theme for this week’s challenge (TTIC36) is What Says Twilight To You?

So many things say “Twilight” to the multitudes of Twilight fans. What images do you think of when you think about the Twilight books and movies? For some, Twilight means an apple, for some, the chess piece on the cover of Breaking Dawn, and for others, Bella’s truck conjures up the Twilight mood. Many fans love to express their Twilight love by choosing a “team” to root for, and others have favorite quotes from the book that are near and dear to them. For the craft portion of the challenge: create a piece that expresses what comes to mind when YOU think of the Twilight saga. For the comment portion of the challenge: Many people often say that reading the Twilight saga has been life-changing. Please share how the saga has changed your own life or made you view life in a different way.

And of course, this week the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge Design Team has used Artful INKables’ new stamp sets for their projects. Check out today’s projects:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Julie ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

And Our Guest Designers:

Alison ~ Donna ~ Jacquie

And we’ve been SO inspired by these new stamp sets that our Design Team has created lots of additional projects with them this week! For this special occasion, we will be featuring these projects here (and on the Design Team members’ personal blogs) for the next week! Can you tell we’re excited about all of this?

Don’t forget that today’s challenge is a team effort, with members of the Artful INKables Design Team playing along with these new stamps as well!

IMG_7274 Finally, my own project.  I am still on the Bind-it-All kick, and now that I’m into making books, I HAD to make one for TTIC!  I’ve been dreaming this one up for a long time now.

And as for what says Twilight to me – Bella and Edward.  It’s all about them for me (really, it’s all about Edward, but I am trying to be fair).  This book is my little tribute to Bella and  Edward – the heart of the Twilight Saga.

This 6-page, 6x 6” book is covered with fabric and features an Artful Inkables stamp, from the Fictionally Inspired set, on each page.   I love using quotes and am so thrilled to now have these quote stamps!   I am sorry that some of my photos are not the best; there are so many sparkly, metallic elements to this book that they just don’t work well in a photo.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 33, Quotes from New Moon

By Julie | 26 May 2009

TT 468x60banner

Hey everyone!  It’s nice to be back for the Twilight Tuesday NEW MOON POSTERInspiration Challenge!  I really  missed doing last week’s  challenge, so I’m happy to get back into the swing of things for this week’s theme.  Our theme was chosen by the awesome Beth, and it is to make a project based on our favorite quote from New Moon.  And I’m really happy that this week is New Moon-related, because then it gives me a chance to post the gorgeous movie poster!

As always, visit the talented members of the Twilight Tuesday design team to see what they have created for this week:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

The quote I chose for this week is:

I would never want anything but him, no matter how long I lived.

Bella Swan, page 451

TTIC33_web

I was clear for this week that I did not want to focus on the angst of New Moon (just not up for that at the moment), so I chose something from the moment when Bella sees Edward for the first time in Volterra.  (Click to enlarge the layout.)  What a great moment – one that I am really looking forward to seeing on the screen in November.  What scenes are you looking forward to seeing in the movie?  My list is too long – there are so many huge, dramatic scenes in the book that could work really well on film.  I can’t wait.

Layout Details:

Paper & Frame – RetroDiva

Diamond Heart – Graphx Fairy

Quote – in the font Pablo, from New Moon, page 451, by Stephenie Meyer

Mini Cards!

By Julie | 8 April 2009

After seeing the beautiful, and small, cards sent to me by my friends Tonya and Beth, I became inspired to try myself and made these three 4×4” size cards.  (Thanks so much, ladies – for both the cards and the inspiration!)  I have to say, I love this size – cards like this come together more quickly than others and I think they’re just, well, cute.

Foryoufromme_webFirst up, a card made with really gorgeous paper given to me by the very generous Tonya, an S.E.I. designer paper called Cherie in the Chocolat line.  It’s so beautiful in person, but I’m not sure the glitter photographed so well.  The sentiment is from the Stampin’ Up! set called Best Yet, and that is layered on Nestabilities circle dies.  The striped paper is another S.E.I. Chocolat, called Nougat.

Robcard_webNext up – ROB!  This one is for the winner of a contest we held at Twilight Tuesday – it just seemed appropriate to use a photo of Rob Pattinson for the winner’s card!  I happened to have this sepia-toned photo of him around from an earlier project (what? that’s not weird…), so I went with browns to match it all up.  I die-cut the photo and its frame from the new Nestabilities Label 4 dies, which I am loving.  I really love that graceful shape!  The background is embossed with the Cuttlebug paisley embossing folder.

For-Caitlin_webAnd, finally, a card that I made for my daughter, who loves the color orange.   This is very simple – the background is embossed with the D’Vine Swirls Cuttlebug folder and the sentiment is from an Inkadinkado set.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 25 – Our Fave Twilight Things!

By Julie | 31 March 2009

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  This week’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge  theme is a really cool one, chosen by the also-really-cool Jen.  Jen asks us to create something inspired by Edward screen capour favorite aspect of the Twilight world.  All of the challenge details can be found on Twilight Tuesday.com.   And while you’re surfing around, be sure to visit the other lovely design team members and show ‘em some love!

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

There are a bunch of cool things going on at Twilight Tuesday.com right now!  Today is the final day to join in on our two March giveaways (our blog candy and our scavenger hunt contest), so head over there and join in for your chance to win! Edward cafesmile

So….my favorite aspect?  I didn’t even need to think about this one.  As he says in the movie, “it isn’t hard to guess” – Edward Cullen.  Of  course.  Somehow I doubt that I will be alone in my choice.  And conveniently, this allows me to fill my post with photos of Rob as Edward, so, yay!  Enjoy!

TTIC25_webThe card that I made for Edward falls in line with other cards I’ve made for the Cullens (as recently as last week’s Carlisle card).    I like keeping those somewhat consistent – someday maybe I will have an entire set of cards for the whole Cullen/Hale family!  I did this card in golden and brown tones, in keeping with those golden Edward eyes. (And I just realized how much the embossed background on this card resembles the sidebars of my blog.) I had found topaz-colored gems months ago and have been hanging on to them for use on an Edward card, so TTIC25_CLOSEUPthey finally came out of their package.  And,  of course – the (fake) diamond heart.  And speaking of favorites – the scene in Eclipse when Edward gives Bella the heart for her bracelet is one of my favorite moments in the entire series.  Sigh.

For the comment portion of the challenge, Jen asks us to talk a little bit about how Twilight has affected our lives – and that affect for me has been huge!  Participating in the Twilight challenges, and subsequently being invited to be on the Design Team (thank you, Tonya!) were very big factors in my even starting this blog.  I have been so very inspired by Twilight and have truly loved doing these challenges and working on Twilight Tuesday.comTwilight

And the people!  Before reading these books, I NEVER would have guessed the way that they have brought people together.  I am truly grateful for the friendship of the entire design team – it’s been amazing to work with such a diverse group of talented and lovely people.  Much love to you guys!

And the many, many awesome Twilight sites – the reverential, the funny, the snarky – soooo many great sites.  [Lauren, themoonisdown, and Unintended Choice - I’m looking at you!  Get on over to Lauren’s Bite, and you can find moon and UC at Letters to Twilight and Letters to Rob.  And prepare to laugh.]

I love it all, and feel that I owe a huge thanks to Stephenie Meyer for all that her books have inspired.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge #17 — Jacob Black

By Julie | 3 February 2009

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  Today’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme comes from Beth, a dedicated member of Team Jacob.  She asks us this week to explore the character of Jacob Black, in particular, his relationship to Bella.  This was an interesting theme for us Team Edward people, but getting out of your comfort zone is one of the fun things about doing a challenge, right?

Get all the details on the challenge at our home base, Twilight Tuesday.com.  And please visit the blogs of our design team members to see what they’ve created:

Beth ~ Dani ~ EveJen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

So even though everyone is already using this lovely quote today, I have to repeat it here since my card for the craft portion of the challenge is based on this idea of Jacob as a sunny personality:

Jacob was simply a perpetually happy person, and he carried that happiness with him like an aura, sharing it with whoever was near him. Like an earthbound sun, whenever someone was within his gravitational pull, Jacob warmed them. It was natural, a part of who he was. No wonder I was so eager to see him.

~Bella, New Moon

I am still in music mode from last week’s music-themed challenge and I used a song quote on my card.  The phrase is from a song I love called "Brighter than Sunshine," by Aqualung.  (If you aren’t familiar with Aqualung, it’s basically one British man called Matt Hales who makes great music — check the song out below.)  TTIC17_2_blog

For this card, I used a bunch of earthy elements, in the hopes of bringing out the feeling of Jacob’s warmth – I  hope it worked out.   I just wish I had more Jacob photos to choose from!  I have this thing with wanting to use photos of the actors in character, and there just isn’t much out there now.  But I know that will change as soon as New Moon gets rolling.  The phrase from the song is done in the font Pablo, which is used as Bella’s handwriting in the books; I wanted to give the impression of that being Bella’s opinion of Jacob.

I used kraft, russet-colored, and cream-colored cardstock for the card.  I was so psyched to see that I had that russet color on hand; I had to use that color since I really associate it with Jacob.  (Bella uses the word often to describe Jacob’s skin color.)  I also used some hemp cord around Jacob’s photo, and found a Quileute symbol online to include near his name.  (I would love to be able to say that the symbol is a wolf, but I think it looks more like a bird of some sort.)   Jacob’s name was computer-generated with a font called Evanescent.  I used a deckle edge on the layers — I just wanted the card to look a little rougher than what I usually do.  I embossed the cream-colored layer with a woodgrain texture plate by Fiskars.

And for the comment portion of  the challenge — Beth asks us to talk a bit about Jacob – who he is as a character, what our views are on his relationships to the other characters in the books, and what might appeal to you or make you dislike him.

I have so many feelings about Jacob, and they are all over the map.  I love Jacob in Twilight and New Moon. Love him.  I am re-reading New Moon right now, and I actually feel genuine gratitude to this fictional character — I am so happy that Bella has him at that point in the story.  Everybody should have such a friend.

Okay…then Eclipse and Breaking Dawn come around and I do a 180 on Jacob; I have some issues there.  (All of that can be addressed at another time – I want to focus on early Jacob now.)

And I need to bring Taylor Lautner into this — I adore that kid.  I am the biggest proponent you could imagine for you-know-who, both the character and the actor…and yet, when Taylor popped up on the screen for the first time in the Twilight movie, I damn near clapped my hands with glee like a child.  The boy just makes me smile — I think that he totally nailed the easygoing sweetness of Jacob in that movie.  Totally adorable.  I can’t wait to see how Taylor brings out the other aspects of Jacob — his wildness and strength — in New Moon.  Having seen how Taylor is transforming himself, I am really confident about it.  So, how long until that movie comes out?  Checking my counter…290 days.  Sigh.

And  now I can really exhale!  I managed to do an entire Twilight-related post without mentioning the names Edward Cullen or Rob Pattinson.  (Or including a gratuitous photo of Rob.)

But I just mentioned them now, didn’t I?  So much for that.

By Julie | 16 January 2009

I am SO excited to be givRobertPattinson8ing away January’s blog candy for the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenges! This information is also posted on Twilight Tuesday.com, our home base for all things relating to the Twilight Tuesday Challenges.  Drop by and check it out!

So, even Rob is giddy with excitement — doesn’t he look happy about it?  He told me that he just loves blog candy.

I chose stuff that is somewhat Twilighty, and also thought about Valentine’s Day, which is right around the corner.  I hope you like it!  So, let’s get to the details!

Here is the stuff up for grabs:

Designer Paper:

There are five styles (two pieces of each in the package) in 5×7" size.

For those who like to know this stuff (as I do), here are the details on the paper (from left to right): Basic Grey Bittersweet Raspberry; Doodlebug Designs black velour and white velour; S.E.I. velour/suede paper; Making Memories Red Glitter Love Notes.

Embellishments:

1/2 yard each of red and black velour ribbon by Maya Road; Red and white mulberry paper flowers by Prima; and assorted bling (red and black brads, clear rhinestones, and a bunch of faux Dew Drops).  [See this post on my blog for an explanation of the faux Dew Drop business.}  And the little bling box will be included as well!

How to Enter the Drawing:

There are three different ways to enter to win during the month of January.  Just for reference — there will be a total of four TTIC challenges this month: TTIC13, TTIC14, TTIC15, and TTIC16.

1) First, leave a comment in the weekly post on Twilight Tuesday that describes each challenge.  So far this month, we’ve done TTIC13 on supporting characters and TTIC14 on baseball.  Follow those links to go to the individual blog entries for each challenge.

2) Create a project for any of the January challenges!  If you upload to the gallery at Splitcoast Stampers, Two Peas in a Bucket, your own blog, or any other site, just leave us a link in the comment section for the specific challenge that you completed.  Please note that the craft portion of the challenges is not limited to stampers and papercrafters — you’re welcome to join us in the medium of your choice!

3) Come check out the new Twilight Tuesday forum and leave us a comment there.  We would love to chat away with you!

Following the end of January, the lucky winner will be chosen by random drawing (with the assistance of Random.org) and the winner will be announced here and will be notified by e-mail, IM, or whatever contact information we have for you!

Thank you to both Tonya and Jen who both helped me with this post.  Tonya, I didn’t even tell you, but I cribbed your language for this, so thanks for that!
