Finally, a card for a Splitcoast Stampers challenge! I really like to do the sketch challenges and hadn’t in so long
, so I really enjoyed getting back into it for this card. The card is based on SCS Sketch Challenge 225. And the stamp I used gave me a lovely title for my blog post, so it worked out well for me!
Another thing I wanted to make time for – to finally use some new paper that I have from K & Co.’s Blue Awning line. Most of the paper in that set is a much truer blue, but I found a paper in the set that works really well with Stampin’ Up’s Baja Breeze cardstock, so I went in that direction.
Something about all of the elements on this card – it took me ages to make this! I started with a cream colored base and a background layer on kraft cardstock, with SU!’s
French Script stamped in a sepia ink. As I look at the finished card, though, I see that the script is barely visible! Then came the four panels from the sketch; the two panels on the top are the K & Co. paper and the bottom two are kraft cardstock stamped with the flourish from SU!’s Baroque Motifs. All four of those panels are mounted on SU!’s Baja Breeze cardstock and on dimensionals. The quote is from a PSX stamp on cream cardstock and cut with a Nestabilities Curved Rectangle, and mounted on another Curved Rectangle in Baja Breeze on dimensionals. The edges of every piece of the card were sponged with Tea Dye Distress Ink. The ribbon is from SU!’s Valet Ribbon Originals set and the card is finished off with Kaiser Pearls in a beige shade.

…is not one of my strengths! I need a card for my nephew’s 21st birthday and I thought that
using a brown color scheme would help, but….it still looks rather feminine. Thankfully, my nephew is very artistically inclined and is open to lots of things, not to mention, a very sweet, appreciative person. I’ll bet he won’t mind.
This card is also a late submission for Splitcoast’s sketch challenge from this past Wednesday, November 26.
I recently got another set of the newly-released Nestabilities, the curved rectangles, which I love and used on the sentiment panel for this card. The sizes of the individual dies are rather spread apart; the next larger rectangle size, for matting, would have been way too big. So I did a little work-around — I used two rectangles (in brown) that are the same size as the sentiment rectangle and just sort of layered them together for a bit of dimension.
Card components:
Paper: Papertrey Ink vintage cream, Bazzill brown, designer paper: Amuse
Stamps: Inkadinkado garden flower set (sentiment), SU Baroque Motifs
Ink: Ranger Adirondack Espresso, Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Tea Dye, Versacolor in bisque
Accessories: Cuttlebug; textile texture embossing folder, Nestabilities curved rectangles; Making Memories brads; dimensionals
What a great sketch for this week’s Splitcoast Sketch Challenge (#201)! This card came together relatively easily with this sketch, which is definitely not the norm with so many of my cards.
The other things that I’ve been working on this week have definitely not come together that easily, which is why they’re not posted here yet! Maybe they’ll make it here sometime soon.
I have been wanting to use this floral stamp for a while now and just never found the occasion since it’s rather large. I was happy that it fit here! Both stamps on the card are from an Inkadinkado set that I love called Garden Flower. I love so much of their stuff; they have some really elegant and beautiful stamps that have come out recently. Lots of swirls and flourishes!
Like most of my cards, this one is heavy on embossing — I embossed two of the panels on the card, one with the Cuttlebug birds & vines folder, and one with a Fiskars texture plate with lines. The lines just added a tiny extra bit of texture that I liked. I love embossing so very much that it was actually hard for me to leave the area alone – I just had to add in those lines! I was sorry that the designer paper isn’t more visible, because it’s one that I love, but I will just have to work it into another card soon.
