Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 47 – Mary Alice Brandon

By Julie | 22 September 2009

468x60banner Happy Tuesday!  It’s my turn to choose the theme for this week’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge, and this one is about the character that every Twilighter seems to love — Alice!

New_Moon___AliceOur theme is specifically about Alice’s past, before she met the Cullen family and was known as Mary Alice Brandon. We don’t know too many details about Alice’s life before the events of the Twilight saga occur, but if you would like a refresher on her past, visit the Twilight Saga Wiki here and read!

The craft portion is to depict an aspect of Alice’s history. You can take your inspiration from what we know from the actual Stephenie Meyer text, or you can use your imagination to depict something that could have happened in Alice’s past.

The comment portion – talk a bit about Alice’s gift. Would you like to possess her ability to see the future? Do you think that that would be a blessing or a curse?

As always, our talented Twilight Tuesday Design Team has projects to display this week – go and visit them!

And here is my own project.  My first idea for this challenge was really very dark and was about Alice’s being institutionalized.  And when it came time to actually make it, I just…couldn’t.  My mood changed, I guess, so I focused on another aspect of Alice.   It was much nicer to think of Alice being free of all of that, and this card was the result.  I wanted this to be very simple and airy to give the impression of freedom.  Alice being free as a bird – that made a lot of sense to me.  I know this might look black, but that dark color is actually navy blue.  I thought that the blue worked with the airy theme.  (Sorry if the photo doesn’t show that very well.)

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white cardstock, Stampin’ Up! Night of Navy cardstock

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 45 – Name Your Challenge!

By Julie | 1 September 2009

TT 468x60banner

Happy Tuesday! Tonya‘s given us a fun challenge theme for this week’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge — we pick our own theme this time! Get all the details, as well as some news about our Design Team, here. Also, today marks the return of the lovely Margie to the Design Team after a brief time off, and it’s great to have her back!

I’m getting a  little nostalgic today for this challenge!  I thought that this was a good time to show you my very first Twilight Tuesday project!  This is from October 2008, and was never posted here as I had yet to start blogging at that point.  This challenge was TTIC3 – yes, 42 challenges ago! – and the theme was The Meadow.  Days before this, I had learned about the challenges when I came across some TTIC projects in the Splitcoast gallery, and that is how I met Tonya and the other members of the then-smaller Design Team.

And speaking of our Design Team – visit them today to see the lovely projects that they’ve come up with for this challenge!

So, back to the project.  Because I love to keep things Edward-centric, I had to turn to Midnight Sun to get his perspective on being in the meadow with Bella, so I pulled out the following quote and used it on the card:

"Bella was with me there. She stared at me, rainbows dancing across her face, her eyes fathomless…"

TTIC3_The_Meadow_by_JMB073TTIC19_villains_web

I found a photo online that really represented the meadow to me; this is very close to how I pictured it while reading, although it’s actually a location in England!  I love this photo and ended up using it on another TTIC project (about the Twilight villains) that related to the meadow.  (You might have to look hard to find the meadow, though – click to enlarge.)

What I Used:

Paper:  Bazzill cardstock

Stamps:  none; quote from Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer; computer-generated using the font Edwardian

Ink:  Versacolor Bisque

Accessories:  Cuttlebug with Fiskars texture leaves texture plate; Stampin’ Up! ticket corner punch; ribbon; dimensionals; Kaiser pearls

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 39 – My Everything

By Julie | 21 July 2009

TT 468x60bannerHello, hello Twilighters!  Ready for a new Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme?  This time our lovely and talented Guest Design Team member Alison chose a Breaking Dawn-related theme.  Read on for Alison’s description of the challenge:

One of the things I love the most about Breaking Dawn are Jacob’s chapter titles. They’re hilarious!

My favorite is: “What do I look like? The Wizard of Oz? You Need a Brain? You Need a Heart? Go Ahead. Take Mine. Take Everything I Have.” Chapter 17, page 329

This chapter title perfectly depicts what Jacob is going through but in a sarcastic, tough, Jacob kinda way. So, here’s the scoop. We’ve all been on the giving and receiving end of many things, and I’m not talking about presents. We have given our “all” (or someone has given us their “all” for us) just because we love them so much. Jacob loves Bella with everything he has and would give it all to her because of it. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for her; that’s definitely made clear in this chapter!

Comment portion: Who have you given your all to? Your kids? Your best friend? Who’s given their all to you? Your parents? A doctor? Tell us about that special relationship where someone has gone as far as they could with the gift of themselves.

Project portion: Show us who has given you their everything or who you’ve given your everything to. Make a layout showing it, or a card to give that person, or even a gift just to say “thanks” or “I love you with all that I have.”

For all of the details on the challenge and how to play along, please visit Twilight Tuesday.com and join in!  As always, stop by the blogs of the Twilight Tuesday Design Team to see what they’ve come up with for this week.  Please note that only those listed below are playing along this week.

And, now my project!  I made a little item for my “everything,” my daughter.  This is a sign for her bedroom door, which she has yet to see.  I am about to sneak to her door and hang it up for her to find tomorrow morning!  Whoohoo – fun, fun, fun!  I can’t wait for her to see it.  It’ll be like Christmas morning around here! TTIC39_fullimage

To make this sign, I started with a 7” square of rather thick chipboard and covered it with Disney Princess-themed designer paper.  The image of Belle and the flowers are from a set of Princess chipboard pieces – already glittery!  I cut the letters from Stampin’ Up’s! Orchid Opulence cardstock using my Cuttlebug and a Cuttlekids alphabet die set.  I gave the letters a little glitz with one of favorite tools ever, a Sakura Jelly Roll pen  in Clear Star.  The sign hangs from a wide satin ribbon, which is secured by large Stampin’ Up! eyelets.  Definitely my least Twilight-like TTIC projects, but, oh, what fun to make something for my girl, who is without a doubt my everything.

TTIC39_close

What I Used:

Paper: Plain chipboard, EK Success Disney Princess designer paper; Sandylion Disney Princess chipboard shapes; Stampin’ Up! Orchid Opulence cardstock

Accessories:  Cuttlebug and Cuttlekids Fairy alphabet dies; dimensionals; Stampin’ Up! large eyelets, Crop-A-Dile; ribbon; Sakura glue pen, Sakura Jelly Roll glitter pen in Clear Star

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 37– A Little Romance

By Julie | 30 June 2009

200x100bannerHappy Tuesday!  Our lovely and talented guest Design Team member Donna brings us this week’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge theme  – the romance of the Twilight saga.  to get your imaginations working, Donna quotes this excerpt from Wuthering Heights, a book that plays a role in the story of Edward and Bella:

"If he loved you with all the power of his soul for a whole lifetime, he couldn’t love you as much as I do in a single day."

Heathcliff, Wuthering Heights

For the creative portion of the challenge — do you have a favorite Edward and Bella, Jacob and Bella, or an Alice and Jasper romantic moment? Create something that celebrates their love.  Or you can create something for, or inspired by, a special person in your life that you love.

For the comment portion of the challenge — tell us about your most favorite romantic moment…be it in the books or real life.

For all of the details on the challenge and how to play along, please visit Twilight Tuesday.com and join in!  As always, stop by the blogs of the Twilight Tuesday Design Team to see what they’ve come up with for this week:

And Our Guest Designers:

Note:  Tonya is sitting out from the challenge this week, but she’s working on something interesting that you’ll see soon!  You’ll see some other names missing from the list as well; they are sitting out this week.

TTIC37romance_webFor my project, I wanted to focus on the meadow scene in Twilight.  It is the scene of Stephenie Meyer’s dream that inspired the entire story, after all!  The meadow is the turning point for Edward and Bella – after this, they are a couple.  I love all the conversations that Edward and Bella have in the book that bond them together, especially in the meadow scene.  (It seemed that they didn’t really have time to fit those in to the movie, unfortunately.)

Twilight2092I found a photo from the movie with Edward in mid-sparkle and used the new Artful INKables “dazzled” stamp from their new Into the Moonlight set.  A big thank you goes out to Tonya, who gave me the clever idea of using paper piecing on the heart stamp when I was stuck!  I can’t tell  you how many photos I took of this card – I just could not get a good shot of the card.  I finally settled on one, but it’s not so great.  It’s a very shiny card – the background is a silver metallic, the green paper in the foreground is a shimmery green color, and the “dazzled” heart is really glittery with the help of Stickles.  And the ribbons and the Dew Drops are metallic as well – I think that these things just don’t photograph well.

Card details:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white cardstock, Stampin’ Up! Baja Breeze cardstock, Bazzill Bling in Sparkle; The Paper Company silver cardstock

Stamps:  Artful INKables Into the Moonlight set

Ink:  Ranger Archival Ink in black, Encore Metallic Ink in silver

accessories:  Cuttlebug – floral fantasy embossing folder, Nestabilities Long Rectangle dies; Stampin’ Up! ticket corner punch; Dew Drops in metallic silver; dimensionals; ribbon; Stickles in Diamond; EK Success border punch

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 35: Renesmee Cullen

By Julie | 16 June 2009

TT 468x60banner

Happy Tuesday!  One of our new guest designers, the lovely breakingdwn2Jacquie, chose our challenge theme for this week – time to focus on Renesmee Cullen, whom we finally meet in Breaking Dawn.

Jacquie describes Renesmee so well, as “amazingly talented and gorgeous, and she immediately becomes the focus of ALL the main characters in an individual way. “  Jacquie also suggests lots of ways to interpret this week’s theme; click here for all of the details on the challenge.  And, as always, visit the blogs of our Design Team to see what they’ve come up with!

Guest Designers:

Alison ~ Donna ~ Jacquie

TTIC35_Renesmee_webFor this challenge, I wanted to share with you a baby girl card that I made a while back that I think is suitable for the arrival of Renesmee. It’s as pink and girly as you can get. (Renesmee doesn’t exactly seem like a tomboy to me!) And it has a little bit of sparkle (in the Bazzill Bling cardstock), so I think it’s suitable for a Cullen.  The quote that I used on this card, by author Eda LeShan, is as follows:

"A new baby is the like the beginning of all things — wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities."

Breaking Dawn ends on such a happy note for Bella, Edward, and Renesmee, and I thought that this quote captured that feeling well.

Card components:

Paper: Stampin’ Up! Very Vanilla cardstock; Bazzill pink and pink metallic cardstock; Anna Griffin designer paper

Stamps: none; quote from author Eda LeShan was computer-generated

Ink: none

Accessories:  Cuttlebug – Swiss dots embossing folder; Making Memories brads; ribbon; SU! ticket corner punch; dimensionals; ribbon

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 12 -- Favorite Twilight QuotesThis week, I wanted to revisit TTIC12, our favorite quotes from the entire Twilight saga, from back in December 2008.  You can see my original post on this challenge here.  I chose to use a quote from Midnight Sun – my favorite of the whole series.  I can’t even begin to get into a “please, Stephenie, finish this!” thing; suffice it to say that I would be REALLY happy if she Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 12 -- Favorite Twilight Quotes (close up)would.  But, hey, that’s her call, so I’ll move on.

I chose a quote from Midnight Sun that I thought was a big turning-point for Edward:

My life was an unending, unchanging midnight. It must, by necessity, always be midnight for me. So how was it possible that the sun was rising now, in the middle of my midnight?

Oh, Edward.  Sigh.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 33, Quotes from New Moon

By Julie | 26 May 2009

TT 468x60banner

Hey everyone!  It’s nice to be back for the Twilight Tuesday NEW MOON POSTERInspiration Challenge!  I really  missed doing last week’s  challenge, so I’m happy to get back into the swing of things for this week’s theme.  Our theme was chosen by the awesome Beth, and it is to make a project based on our favorite quote from New Moon.  And I’m really happy that this week is New Moon-related, because then it gives me a chance to post the gorgeous movie poster!

As always, visit the talented members of the Twilight Tuesday design team to see what they have created for this week:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

The quote I chose for this week is:

I would never want anything but him, no matter how long I lived.

Bella Swan, page 451

TTIC33_web

I was clear for this week that I did not want to focus on the angst of New Moon (just not up for that at the moment), so I chose something from the moment when Bella sees Edward for the first time in Volterra.  (Click to enlarge the layout.)  What a great moment – one that I am really looking forward to seeing on the screen in November.  What scenes are you looking forward to seeing in the movie?  My list is too long – there are so many huge, dramatic scenes in the book that could work really well on film.  I can’t wait.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 31 – Graduation

By Julie | 12 May 2009

Twilight2472

Rebecca has come up with our theme this week – graduation.  Rebecca said that she got her inspiration from the moment in the movie when Bella spots the collage of graduation caps at the Cullen home.  You can find all the information on the challenge here, and be sure to visit the blogs of the other members of the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge Design Team to see their projects for this week:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

For this challenge I made a masculine graduation card, inspired by…wait for it…Edward.  Surprise!

TTIC31_web

I wanted to make something with an old-world, vintage look, because, after all, Edward technically should have graduated from high school in around 1918-1919.  I knew what colors I wanted to use for this card for a few reasons – I had already had this designer paper in mind (since it is already very vintage-looking).  I also like to get that topaz color in there as a little nodTwilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 5 - Whose Team Are You On? to Edward and his eyes (the Dew Drops).  And finally, the colors of Forks High School are blue and gold.  How do I know this?  From a little research done for this card, from Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge #5, way back in October 2008.   (Geeky enough for you?)

The quote that I used for today’s card is from Ralph Waldo Emerson (a famous resident of Concord, Massachusetts, right down the road from me):

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something  else is the greatest accomplishment.

I chose this quote because not only did it seem suitable for a graduation card, but it really seemed to reflect the Cullens and the choices they had made to live amongst humans.  Edward and his family spent decades fighting against their natures, working to be better than others of their kind (sort of quote from movie-Edward).  And…they succeeded.  Quite an accomplishment.

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 29 – The Friendship of Bella and Jacob: My Project

By Julie | 28 April 2009

TT 468x60bannerI’m back with  my own project!  I really disliked being so late with this, but since it’s technically still Tuesday, I’m not so far off.   For those of you who came back – thanks for your patience!

Our very own “alpha” of our pack, Tonya has come up with our theme today, the friendship of Bella and Jacob.  Click here for all of the challenge info, and visit the blogs of the design team to see what they’ve prepared for this week:

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 29 -- The Friendship of Bella Swan & Jacob BlackMy project for this theme is a digital layout that is literally supposed to be a scrapbook page.  I went a little far in my imagination with this one – so bear with me!  My idea is that Bella made this for and gave it to Jacob, as something to commemorate all the time they spent together in La Push.  (The photo is of one of the beaches in La Push.)  But, it turns a little poignant – Jacob stuck in the other two photos, one of Bella alone, and another of the two of them, because, you know how it is with Jacob.  We all know how he was feeling in those days.  As much as the friendship between them is a lovely thing, I can’t seem to discuss it without the aspect of Jacob’s unrequited feelings.  I  had to get in there somewhere!

Thanks so much for reading – see you again soon!

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge 27 – Jasper Hale

By Julie | 14 April 2009

TT 468x60bannerjasper bat animationvampires_0041Happy Tuesday, everyone! This week’s theme for the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge Challenge was chosen by me – it’s time for a tribute to Jasper Hale!   The creative part of this challenge is to make a piece that says "Jasper" to you. And the comment portion for this week is all about Jasper’s amazing calming abilities. What do you like to do to create that Jasper-style calm for yourself?

As always, all the rules and challenge information can be found here. Please join us and play along! We also just announced the blog candy for the month of April – check that out!  And be sure to visit the very talented members of the Design Team to see what they have to display.

Beth ~ Dani ~ Eve ~ Jen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

I’m happy that we get to focus on Jasper this week!  Love this character.  And as always, I turn to the oracle, Edward Cullen, for his words of wisdom on Jasper:

“Jasper is very interesting. He was quite charismatic in his first life, able to influence those around him to see things his way.  Now he is able to manipulate the emotions of those around him — calm down a room of angry people, for example, or excite a lethargic crowd, conversely. It’s a very subtle gift.” – Twilight, page 308

vampires_0024There are just so many interesting things about Jasper – not the least of which are his wicked baseball skills.  I wish that we could hear more about him at some point.  Honestly, if Stephenie Meyer decided to write a LOT more about all of the Cullens, giving us their backstories, I would be very happy.  And wouldn’t you love to hear more about Jasper’s history?  His time in the civil war, all that he experienced with other vamps, what it was like when he and Alice met, how hard he works on his vegetarian diet – that would be incredibly cool. TTIC27Jasper_web

And really, what is Jasper without Alice?  I find it hard to think about one character  without thinking of the other.  So…that led me to do a  matched set for those two.  We did a challenge about Alice several months ago and I  thought I would model my Jasper card after that Alice card.  (That entry was only my third on my baby blog!)  And as I was working on it, I realized that I TTIC27-JasperwAlice_webactually wanted to make the  exact same thing for this week.  It just made sense to me.  Those two are just  such a matched set, with their special abilities, the fact that they came to join the Cullen family on their own, and the fact that neither of them was actually turned by Carlisle.  So…same cards!  It just had to be that way.
