By Julie | 2 February 2010

Oh my goodness, I feel like I have been away for so long!  A little injury has slowed me (and my crafting!) down a lot lately, but things are improving now – yay!

So here is my better late than never project for this week’s Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge themeDonna has come up with this week’s theme, and here is what she has to say about it:

Craft Portion: Make a VALENTINE’S card/project for your favourite character or for YOUR valentine… but…. with texture!! That’s right I want you to add things like lace, raised embossing, distressed edges, fuzzy fibres, metal, cloth, cracked glass, leather, flower soft, sandpaper, anything that adds texture!

Comment Portion: Tell us your favourite Valentine’s story…Or if you haven’t got one, Tell us who you would like to snuggle up on Valentine’s day with from the Twilight Saga.

Click here for further details about the challenge and how to play along.  And as always, our Design Team has fantastic projects to display for this week’s challenge – please go and check them out!

And here is my card for this week – one that features fabric!  I have lots of fabric on hand since I often make fabric-covered journals, but I rarely use it on cards.  Donna’s challenge gave me a great opportunity to give it another go.

Here’s a closer look at the fabric heart.  I die-cut the fabric with a Spellbinders heart die and backed it with batting to give it lots of dimension.  I am loving the feel of this thing — it’s puffy like a little pillow!  I’m not sure that comes across in this photo, but hopefully you will take my word for it.  :)   The background of the card is also embossed, adding in a little bit more texture.

Valentines!

By Julie | 12 February 2009

Here’s a Valentine’s Day card that I made for my daughter’s teachers.  I had A LOT of fun making these cards (I did several of them) — I love that stamp!  It’s got a little bit of a distressed look to it (although you have to look closely to see that).  I was really happy to see that I had this Fiskars hearts texture plate stashed away.  I had tried my Cuttlebug heart embossing folder and it didn’t work; the Fiskars smaller hearts looked much better with such a large sentiment. Stamps:  Inkadinkado from Happy Days set (sentiment on card); Envelope: Inkadinkado heart from  Hearts & Love set; to/from – Rubber Stampede

Accessories:  Cuttlebug: Fiskars hearts texture plate; Nestabilities long rectangle dies; dimensionals; ribbon

Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge #18 — Twilight Valentines!

By Julie | 10 February 2009

Happy Tuesday — here’s an early wish for a Happy Valentine’s Day too!  This week it was my turn to choose the theme for the Twilight Tuesday Inspiration Challenge and it was a really easy decision this time…it’s Twilight Valentines!  All of the details on the challenge can be found at our home base for the challenges, Twilight Tuesday.com.  As always, we welcome you to play along with us!  And, please visit the blogs of the design team members to see what they’ve created!

Beth ~ Dani ~ EveJen ~ Margie ~ Rebecca ~ Tonya

The creative portion of the challenge is to make a card that twilightpromocould be given from character to another in the Twilight world.  Because I am totally predictable when it comes to choosing a Twilight character to focus on…yeah, I chose Edward.  I made a card that Edward would give to Bella.  In the Twilight world of my imagination.  (Just go with it — it’s more fun that way.)  More on the card in a bit.

The comment portion of the challenge is to talk a bit about the couples in the Twilight  world. Which couple’s story you might relate to or admire, which couple might not work for you (hey, imprinting on a baby theme – I’m looking at you!). Anything you like. I would bet that a lot of us love the stories because of the romantic elements — just elaborate on that a bit, and tell us what parts of that appealed to you.

TTIC18_ValentineHmmm…my favorite relationship would have to be that of Renee and Phil…yeah, just kidding — you all know what I’m going to say!  It’s all about Edward and Bella. {Or really, it’s all about Edward.  Has there EVER been a fictional character that has inspired this much adoration?  Seriously?!}

And for my least favorite relationship(s) in the story — I hinted at that one above.  The imprinting on an infant does not work for me, nor will it ever work for me.  So Renesmee and Jacob, Quil and Claire  = not my faves.

My card for this challenge is not very black and red and Twilighty-looking.  I really just wanted to do a somewhat straightforward Valentine card, something that Edward might like for Bella.  (Again, in my imaginary world.)  There are just a few Twilight hints here.  Aside from adding Bella and Edward’s names to the heart shape on the card, the "forever" sentiment reminded me of the last scene of Twilight (both the book and the movie).

And my nod to Edward — the presence of the rhinestones on the IMG_6100card, especially the rhinestone heart.  Was that not one of the loveliest of scenes, when Edward gives Bella the  diamond heart for her bracelet?  Edward seemed so thrilled to be giving it to her…so lovely.  So let’s take a moment with this; allow me to quote from one of my very favorite moments of the whole series:

On the opposite side of the chain from the wolf, there now hung a brilliant heart-shaped crystal.  It was cut in a million facets, so that even in the subdued light shining from the lamp, it sparkled.  I inhaled in a low gasp.

"It was my mother’s," he shrugged deprecatingly.  "I inherited quite a few baubles like this.  I’ve given some to Esme and Alice both.  So, clearly, this is not a big deal in any way."

I smiled ruefully at his assurance.

"But I thought it was a good representation," he continued. "It’s hard and cold."  He laughed.  "And it throws rainbows in the sunlight."

"You forgot the most important similarity," I murmured.  "It’s beautiful."

"My heart is just as silent," he mused. "And it, too, is yours."

I twisted my wrist so the heart would glimmer.  "Thank you. For both."

Heartfelt Thanks

By Julie | 30 January 2009

Did you ever have so much to thank a person for that you barely knew where to begin?  That’s how I felt while making this for my beloved Stamp Vamp, also known as Tonya.  Tonya’s done so many things for me lately that this one card didn’t quite feel like enough, but WithHeartfeltThanks_blogit’s a start.  Hugs to you, Tonya!

Like another recent card I made, this one is very Valentine-ish.  I cannot resist the pinks and reds lately.  I guess that I should start actually making Valentine cards, instead of just making cards that look that way.  I had better get on that.

I think I might have even topped myself on the number of Cuttlebugged elements on this one card – I count seven different Cuttlebugged pieces! (And I wonder why I have cracked two of my Cuttlebug B plates lately?!)

A Valentine-Inspired Thank You

By Julie | 28 January 2009

Rebeccascard_blog2The kind and talented Rebecca of Bella Carta did a very nice thing for the entire Twilight Tuesday design team — she sent us all a package of crafty, Twilighty goodies, including lots of reds!

To thank her for her generosity, I wanted to make Rebecca a thank you card that used something that she sent.  I am also starting to get into the Valentine’s spirit, so this card looks a little more like a Valentine than a thank you!  The Rebeccas cardcloseup_blogstamp that I used on this card is actually from an Inkadinkado Valentine set; the cherubs on there are so cute that I just had to include a photo of them. This card was a little tough to photograph, so I think that a few details are difficult to see.  The horizontal panel in the middle of the card is actually ribbed (with the help of a Fiskars texture plate); it doesn’t look apparent from the photograph.

A big thank you goes to Rebecca for her generosity and thoughtfulness!

Card components:

Paper:  Papertrey Ink white; SU! Riding Hood Red; The Paper Company vellum; designer paper, unknown brand

Stamp:  Inkadinkado from the Hearts & Love set

Ink:  SU! Riding Hood Red

Accessories:  Cuttlebug:  Nestabilities rectangles dies, Fiskars texture plate-lines; EK Success corner punch; American Crafts brads; ribbon; dimensionals
